Quote:
It is 1850 in the beautiful, perfectly-kept town of Wismar. Jonathan Harker is about to leave on a long journey over the Carpathian Mountains to finalize real estate arrangements with a wealthy nobleman. His wife, Lucy begs him not to go and is troubled by a strong premonition of danger.

Despite her warnings, Jonathan arrives four weeks later at a large, gloomy castle. Out of the mist appears a pale, wraith-like figure with a shaven head and deep-sunken eyes who identifies himself as Count Dracula. The events that transpire slowly convince Harker that he is in the presence of a vampyre. What he doesn't know is the magnitude of danger he, his wife and his town are about to experience.

Love the original but I've never actually seen Herzog's version. Maybe I should amend that before Eggers' hits the big screen.

I wish Dracula (1979) would get a 4K upgrade with this. But I'll take what we can get. Their blu-ray for this really needed an upgrade.

I've only seen it once a few years back, but I thought it was really well done. Great atmosphere, and Kinski is creepy as hell in it. I also remember thinking how beautiful and haunting Adjani was in the film, but that can be said about most of her work.

Problem here is if BFI announces their own edition.

If they do it'll sure to top SFs edition

Yeah, I understand that but for me - I love these two movies (Aguirre + Nosferatu) that I want to support the release and want the best available version ASAP.

So if BFI or another label follows with a better edition, I will sell the Shout releases and buy the best available option.

It's a masterpiece. Truly one of its kind and Kinski is spectacular in this. It's not a traditional great performance but so wholly unique and weirdly fitting if you see it with the awareness of who he was. Cinematography and locations are also jaw-droopingly beautiful.

It's a masterpiece, Dally! Right from the opening sequence and music, you'll know you're in for a treat.

I'll wait for reviews of Shout's 4K, but I'd pounce on a BFI 4K. Oh, man. A dream come true would be for BFI to re-release their Herzog box set in 4K.

I should note that December is a tentative release. That's what the leak says, but there's 8 4K titles in that leak right now, so I imagine some may be held over for future months.

Yeah, but with the Nosferatu remake coming out in December, this one would make a lot of sense.
Such a frigging wonderful news! I own the bfi Herzog set mostly for this movie (just watched this week for the first time Aguirre and Fitzcarraldo). This is one of my favorite vampire movie (and Dracula adaptation). The music is so haunting and beautiful and then of course there's Kinski, in one of the most haunting performance of all time. A weird and magical horror movie. I'm thrilled we are getting this by Scream once again, hopefully with the original artwork too!

I love that it's the complete opposite of a Hollywood film. It's so low-key and naturalistic, yet so atmospheric. And don't even get me started on that memorable Popol Vuh music. The BFI steelbooks for this movie and Aguirre are two of the prized possessions in my collection.

Awesome! With it being an anniversary and with the Robert Eggers version arriving in theaters soon, I just knew this had to be coming this year. Hope it's more like the BFI Blu-ray rather than the previous Shout Blu-ray though.

This is fantastic news, but I have to say that I'm a little disappointed no one has announced a release for Shadow of the Vampire yet. I mean who's sitting on this film?
