Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die | Gore Verbinski

A fall 2023 production start was set up for Verbinski’s “Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die,” that is, before the actors' strike happened. The aim is still to shoot the film in the fall, strike-depending, with Sam Rockwell cast in the lead role.

Here’s the plot synopsis for the peculiarly titled “Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die”:

“The film follows a married guy who spends too much time with an online fantasy role-playing game who meets a man from the future with a strange plan”. [+]

I'd stop short of calling it a masterpiece, but you're absolutely right that it is underrated. I think a cult following for it is quietly building though.

Great film that fumbles a bit into the third act. But you can def see Gore taking his Bioshock notes and applying it to that.

I'm stoked for more original Verbinski. Just anything from him at all. It's been too long since he's made a film.

German production and distribution powerhouse Constantin Film, producers of the Resident Evil franchise, is behind the action-adventure film which centers on a “man from the future” (Rockwell) who arrives at a diner in Los Angeles where he must recruit the precise combination of disgruntled patrons (Richardson, Peña, Beetz, Temple) to join him on a one-night-six-block quest to save the world from the terminal threat of a rogue artificial intelligence.

Filming is due to begin later this year in Cape Town, South Africa.

Briarcliff Entertainment has acquired U.S. distribution rights to Gore Verbinski’s Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die from Constantin Film LA and will release wide theatrically on January 30, 2026.
