I've always wanted to see this movie especially after seeing Jules & Jim which is a great movie.

I know. That's too bad. I'm hoping that Criterion gets to the point of getting, at least, one blu-ray release per month to the public. That would keep me happy... and my wallet a bit less empty.

Crap! "The 400 Blows" blu-ray is not even up on their site anymore now! What's up with that?

Well, I'm sure that they're updating, and that it'll be there once they've done the work. It's that time of the month, on their very lovely but very new site.

400 Blows is an essential title, and I can't wait to own it. Haven't seen it since my early days at the local cinematheque. Now, as for the concert titles that seem to populate the remainder of their initial BD release schedule, I'm much less enthusiastic about those, but I suppose Criterion know which side their bread is buttered on... The Wages of Fear is my next big title on that list.

Although I'm considering just putting a hundred bucks aside for Criterion Blu-rays every month in 2009, and getting them all. It's not as if I don't like classic rock cinema, after all... eh.

looks like another Truffaut film called THE LAST METRO is coming out on BLU ray also in March

Looks like they are updating their site currently for the new titles. I can also so DODES'KA-DEN from Kurosawa is due out on standard DVD in March nothing yet on BLU - So I doubt this will be a BLU release also. It will be hard watching standard DVD releases with out the BLU counterparts being released from Criterion for the next while. Until they go full out.

Yep, I noticed that on the front page of Criterion's site, as well. I've yet to see "The Last Metro," but it appears to be one of Truffaut's last films. I guess I'll see it come next year, though.

Since they started the new look of the site etc... it seems to take it longer to update their listings for new titles. Used to be you'd go to coming soon and they were there asap.

I just want to see the full list of titles. But March may only be two blu rays which is fine but still dying to have them release CONTEMPT

The Last Metro isn't on that initial list, but if the rumor is true, it'll be a great film to have on Blu. A double dose of Truffaut in one month -- on Blu-ray, and Criterion Blu-ray at that -- I mean, seriously!

Haven't seen Godard's Contempt yet, but it will be worth a shot. I find Godard invigorating and infuriating in equal measure. But this one does have a young Bardot.

EDIT: Here it is!

^ Bardot is there alright, but Godard filmed her in a very sexless kind of way -- as if that was possible (the studio was angry at him for having a Bardot without a nude scene in his initial cut).

Nevertheless, I am so excited to see Truffaut! That last metro cover looks so sexy. ;p

You would expect Godard of all people to do that to her, wouldn't you. Then again, at this early stage, any Bardot on Criterion Blu-ray will do the trick. And the movie just might be a small masterpiece, for all I know.

And yeah, that's a great cover. For a very good movie, with some of Deneuve's and Depardieu's best work. God, I miss Truffaut...

I have been ecstatic every since it was announced for BD. Of course the wait is killing me but as long as Criterion does a masterful job on it, its worth it. How about Les Diaboliques after we get our first taste of Clouzot? (sigh) So many incredible films yet so little patience.

As for Les 400 Coups...I very happy about this. I was disappointed when the MK2/Warner release was not English friendly, but good old Criterion to the rescue.

To be honest I don't think 400 Blows is getting a Blu ray release in March. I keep reloading Criterion's main page and it never falls under the BLU RAY catagory I think THE LAST METRO is the only BLU ray listed for March from Criterion.

Criterion may have changed their minds since last night, but there was actually a placeholder with cover and the blu sticker in the blu-ray section for "The 400 Blows" last night on their website with a green font release date of 3/24/2009. It was up in there for about 5 minutes from when I noticed it, but since then it hasn't shown up at all.

Ought to be in the process of announcement, then.

I hope that in 2009 we could get at least 2 discs each month.

Cool yeah i was getting worried... not sure why they are putting on their March releases to contact them with their e-mail addy link? seems odd.

I picked up Third Man after seeing them at only BARNES & NOBLE and no one else in the MPLS area seemed to carry them not even Borders? But I had to venture to three B&N's before I could settle on a correct looking Third Man case... Man Who Fell to Earth all the cases for it looked good but almost every Third Man was scrunched and every corner looked like it had been rolled.
