Disney Bluey (2027)

Quote:
Bluey is heading to the silver screen.

The smash-hit Disney+ animated series is getting its own feature film from The Walt Disney Co. and BBC Studios, to be written and directed by Bluey creator Joe Brumm. The film will “continue the adventures of Bluey, a loveable, inexhaustible, blue heeler dog, who lives with her Mum, Dad and her little sister, Bingo,” per the studios.

The CG-animated film will hit theaters in 2027 under the Disney banner, and will stream on Disney+ after its debut. The film will star vocal talent from the series including Melanie Zanetti and David McCormack as Bluey’s mum and dad, Chilli and Bandit Heeler, and music created by Bluey composer Joff Bush.

Bluey has become a bona fide hit for Disney+, routinely ranking as one of the most-streamed shows on the service. A longer-form special called ‘The Sign’ garnered more than 10 million viewers worldwide, with a handful of new episodes trickling out after.

Bluey has also helped drive revenue for BBC Studios, the U.K. broadcaster’s for-profit arm, driven by merchandise sales and licensing.

Created by Brumm in his native Australia, the series quickly gained traction across the globe with kids and families, charmed by the show’s celebration of imagination and creativity, as well as its strong emotional core.

“Since its debut on Disney Jr. and Disney+, Bluey has become a global phenomenon, uniting families everywhere with its heartfelt stories of play, imagination and connection,” said Disney Entertainment co-chairman Dana Walden and Alan Bergman, in a statement. “We are so proud to expand upon our relationship with BBC Studios to bring the magic of Bluey to the big screen – for real life! – and we are deeply grateful to Joe Brumm for creating a world that continues to inspire and delight families everywhere.”

“I really enjoyed the experience of working with a longer format on ‘The Sign’ in Series 3, so going even further with a feature film feels like a natural extension of that,” Brumm added. “I’ve always thought Bluey deserved a theatrical movie. I want this to be an experiential event for the whole family to enjoy together. I’m excited to continue to partner with Cecilia Persson, Tom Fussell and the team at BBC Studios, and Dana Walden, Alan Bergman and Disney to bring this new Bluey story to the big screen.”

Disney and BBC Studios will produce the film with Ludo Studio, with veteran animation producer Amber Naismith (The Lego Movie, Happy Feet) producing. David Greenbaum, who lead’s Disney’s live action and 20th Century Studios team, will oversee the production for Disney.

Seems like series creator Joe Brumm has full creative control given how he's directing, writing, and executive producing

Joe Brumm has also released an open letter regarding his involvement with the TV show.

If the show does, in fact, get a fourth season, it will be without his involvement. Considering how integral he was to the production of the first three, this definitely makes me fear for a drop in quality.

Wackadoo news, I knew this was only a matter of time! Hopefully Season 4 doesn't drop in quality, with the creator leaving.

I look forward to seeing the Bluey movie with some friends in 2027, probably while attending a convention.
