Matt Damon & Ben Affleck To Star In Crime Thriller ‘RIP’ From Artists Equity And Joe Carnahan

Here is a package that certainly will heat up the summer market. Deadline is hearing that Matt Damon and Ben Affleck are attached to star in the thriller RIP, with Joe Carnahan writing and directing. Affleck and Damon’s company Artists Equity are producing with a plan to shoot this fall.

Reps for Artists Equity could not be reached for comment.

Plot details are being kept under wraps other than it being described as a crime thriller. The project is expected to find a distributor soon as interest has been drawn from theatrical and streaming buyers.

Since launching Artists Equity in November 2022, Damon and Affleck have released its first film, Air, in spring 2023 to glowing reviews and a solid box office performance. Since then, the studio has produced the documentary The Greatest Love Story Never Told for Amazon MGM Studios and Small Things Like These, which opened this year’s Berlin Film Festival and won the Silver Bear for supporting actress Emily Watson.

Netflix looks to have landed a big fish before everyone bolts for the Fourth of July holiday. Deadline is hearing that the streamer has landed rights to the crime thriller RIP starring Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, with Joe Carnahan directing. Deadline first reported the news that the package had hit the market a couple weeks back, and sources indicated it was only a matter of time before someone scooped it up. Carnahan also penned the script, with Damon and Affleck’s Artists Equity producing.

Just heard about this movie when I read Scott Adkins joined the cast. Sounds interesting. I wish Joe Carnahan was more active. I thought after The Grey he was on the verge of becoming an A list director. But instead he hasn't. Not sure what the reason is.

Since then he's become buddies with Frank Grillo, started a company with him and directed a couple B movies starring him. They were okay but it feels like Carnahan should be doing better.

He's actually got 2 movies completed that will come out next, but maybe RIP is going be the return of him working on big projects with A list talent.....

Quick question as I don’t have Netflix… the trailer (if that’s what was shown during the event) isn’t going to be released online, was it shown as part of the event broadcast stream or not?
