Default Quick Audio Question.

I'm sure this has been asked before, but I'm going to try it again anyway.

On the PS3 - now that it is getting the DTS-HD MA update - what is the difference between using a Panasonic 30 that bitstreams the audio codec to a receiver than that of using the PS3 that converts all the codecs to PCM?

Is there any audio difference? The receiver would be an Onkyo class, 605-805.

Thanks in advance.

there really isnt a difference but some claim that receivers can do a better job decoding than players.

Is that so? Ha. I don't know why I always assumed there was a big difference.

Sonically, the two signals should be pretty much identical. However, the advantage for a receiver receiving the bitstream signal is that secondary audio adjustments may be made. Depending on the receiver, things that can be adjusted may include changing movie soundfields ("Sci-Fi," "Adventure" etc) HD display lip sync, as well as speaker distance compensation. All in all, those are fairly nit picky and relatively minor in a properly calibrated system.

But as far as major difference, there is no concern? All I would probably mess with is the volume, honestly. That's it.

Not true for the new 2.0 fearures. Bitstream won't be decoded by the receiver for PIP, etc, which must be decoded by the player.

of course they do... i always give extras a try ever since I watched Conan the Barbarian with arnold's commentary... it was hilarious... he was really serious about that flick!!!!

I always give them a chance on features in the hopes I find a gem... The alternate audio tracks for Kung Pow were well worth the watch too!
