Default Now it's official

Everyone in the world must know about Blu-ray now. I was talking to my Dad tonight, one of the most technologically inept people I know (but he's improving ), and he mentioned hearing about the Blu-ray format victory.

As a little background, I do feel like the oddball for being in on new tech before anyone else in the family. My Aunt finally got cable just two days ago after years of complaining about the bad reception from her rabbit ears and I only recently got her to quit calling DVDs "tapes". My parents finally got their first PC and cellphone just this past year, though they stubbornly hang onto their VHS player because they don't want to replace their videotapes. At least it's a combo DVD/VHS unit.

So if one of them knows about Blu-ray, I figure it must be doing well. LOL

Yea, it's spreading fast.

And I'd like to say sorry in advance for the Canadiens beating you tomorow.

Hey, we just beat the Sens in a shootout.

And even if the Habs whoop us tonight, at least I can watch it on my brand new XBR4. Just got it delivered today.

Your parents are very advanced. My mother doesn't own a cellphone. She doesn't even want to upgrade her Sanyo Beta VCR with a VHS VCR. Her Beta machine is over 25 years old and still works. She always asks me to buy her blank Beta tapes. Are you listening Sony? Please continue to make blank tapes for my mother's sake.

My mother purchased a HD DVD on accident about 2 weeks ago thinking it was a DVD. Then today I am at their house and she tells me that she bought a movie of a "dead format." I almost fell off my chair, she heard it on the news. She now understands that I backed Blu-ray so she gave me the movie to return to Best Buy and will gladly exchange it for another BD movie.

small world. news travels fast. GREAT for blu-ray. I have to be honest if it weren't for the PS3 I would have NEVER adopted blu as early as I did. But man oh man do I love it. I don't think everyone realizes just how BIG a role the PS3 played in winning this format war.

same here. my whole family is inept technologically. I always knew everything technology related first.

Once I suggested for them to buy BD player. they said DVD is good enough (sure, they never saw BD, except my mom - who was impressed)

I work in a shop in belgium and it's the first time a couple of teen chicks came to me and said: "where are the blu-rays? "

first time i saw a female interested in HD.. even my (girl)-friends don't see the difference between Tekken 3 PS1 and Motorstorm ... "yeah it's a bit sharper ... "

It's funny how fickle some folk are because two years ago my friends were chastising me about how I could like something called a "Blu Ray" and they went on about how HD DVD was going to win because J6P knows what "HD" and "DVD" are.

Two years later, the same people are saying how cool Blu Rays are and think HD DVD is a stupid title. Somehow, "I told you so" just doesn't quite cut it.

I have seen a story shown about 'the downfall of HD DVD and the victory of Blu-ray' in which they show clips from America on the news (has been mentioned over different nights and different channels) but thats great free publicity for Blu-ray here in Australia and educational that Blu-ray won to those who were waiting for one format.

I just got my 40" XBR4 on Saturday and my Mom and Dad came over to check it out. They were in complete awe of Curse of the Black Pearl, hopefully I can get them in on the world of Hi def now that they've seen the difference.
