I have the Onkyo HT-S894 system and the DVD player won't let me change to 96. Isn't this better??
Thanks! |

Are you talking about DTS 96/24?
For that you need a DTS 96/24 titles (I don't think there is much of those). Also read your manual, because it depends on the listening modes you're using, on the manual of the HT-S870 (sorry I didn't find/didn't care that much to find the manual of your specific system) it says that "for DTS 96 kHz/24-bit material, if the listening mode is Stereo or DTS 96/24, audio is processed at 96 kHz. For all other listening modes, it’s processed at 48 kHz." Check that out! |

Thanks! The rep at Onkyo said something like you have to have the movie in to make the adjustment but you can only make the adjustment when you stop the movie (would it still be "reading" that movie when it's stopped?). I then tried it with a DTS movie and it still would not let me lock into the 96 hz. option.

What title did you tried it with?
The only titles that work at 96 kHz have the following logo: ![]() As far as I know, the titles that were release with these encodings are mainly audio titles (bunch of classical stuff, Queen, etc.). The DTS 96/24 format was meant to compete with DVD-Audio and SACD and is designed a bit like DTS-HD with a core and the extension (in this case the 96 kHz extension). Normal movies with DTS and DTS ES soundtracks will not output at 96 kHz. Basically this feature is pretty much useless (considering the number of titles, maybe I'm wrong but I didn't find that much) and outdated. I guess manufacturers implemented it because it is inexpensive to include it and it looks good on the specs ![]() Last edited by Johk; 02-25-2008 at 04:40 PM. |
