Default Which kind of Blu-ray software you need?

it's really difficult to decide which kind of software can earn money.

A region free, can play blu-ray backupped on hard disk, hdcp-free(you needn't to update your graphic card), can do snap-shot from blu-ray movie, all the above features can not be found on powerdvd or windvd, will anyone pay 39.95 usd for the blu-ray software player ?

Or should I develop a blu-ray editting software? Or blu-ray backup to hard disc software, will anyone pay for it?

help!!!

I think I din't say my idea clearly.

I want to develop a new software player with following features:

1) region free
2) can play blu-ray backupped on hard disk
3) can play blu-ray without a hdcp compatible graphic card
4) can do snap shot when play blu-ray disc

All the above features can not be found from windvd or powerdvd. Does anyone think I can earn money from the new software player?

If you don't have a licence from the BDA won't you get sued and lose money?

First of all: Yes, i am sure there is demand for a good playback software for Blu-ray. Many people are using PowerDVD, it has many issues and its pq is imo debateable.

Thing is, we have seen what happened to PowerDVD. And seeing what you intend to include in your software, you are aware of that (disabled playback from hdd, etc.). Since you will very likely need the cooperation of the BDA for your project (for example, youŽll need AACS and BD+ support for all discs to play), i guess you will face the same pressure for your software to not support certain unwanted uses of BD.

What I guess is that the AACS and BD+ will be broken by hack in a year or so, like CSS, if that's true, can my player software earn a lot of money at that time? Will people pay money for another player even if they have had powerdvd come with their BD-Drive?

If you are looking for a Blu-ray related niche, I can suggest an blu-ray player for Win XP Media Center. If you go over to thegreenbutton.com you can see that there is quite a demand. Microsoft will, of course, not write one, and the big companies are focused on Vista now. However, if you require people to install protection hacks it will probably limit your audience.

Unlike traditional protection schemes, BD+ can change every time a version is cracked (sort of reminds me of the old floppy protection schemes). Granted there's probably only a few ways to determine if it's a copy or not but until then I would worry about it. Just get a decent player up and running (not all BD's have BD+).

I personally would like a decent BD authoring program with a decent BD-J integration and doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

Also, for us creating BD discs, it would be nice to have a good player also to test our masterpieces! :-)

Thumbs up I think it's a good idea to do such work

I think it's a good idea to develop such a player.
I have a BD driver, and also has powerDVD installed. But I remainly can't play blu-ray discs using it. Someone said that I should upgrade my AGP for a higher level. So,I bought a AnyDVD,now,I can play the movies using any player. I know the playback depend AnyDVD.
I have read some AACS papers.I know many keys is important in AACS mechanism. But how slysoft gets? Perhaps slysoft need not to have some keys.
I wish someone can do this work(playing any blu-ray disc directly).
I am also interested in such project.(I searched for blu-player and found this thread)
If you would like, mail to me.

Regards.
