Default Price Point - The Stopper

I don't know about how many of you on this forum especially don't actually have blu-rays, but I was about to buy one then I needed to spend money elsewhere so I had to delay things.

Anyways now that I have the money again the major thing stopping me from my purchase is pricing of players. I had no problem contemplating and almost buying a PS3 or Blu-Ray when 5 free discs were offered by mail and for the 40gb PS3 one in the box. However, now those promotions are gone and done and none in current site to replace them. Including it seems the Spiderman 3 inclusion with the 40gb model of the PS3 as non-Spidey models take over stores in my area.

So I was just sitting around wondering how many people have qualms with the pricing of players at the moment given there is nothing added to the package its just the player? Or have qualms about purchasing because the only BD Live capable player on the market is the PS3 (to my knowledge) and although it is one of the cheaper players (40gb model) it is still sitting at over four Benjamins after tax?

They're still out there. Check out walmart.com:

http://www.walmart.com/catalog/produ...uct_id=5303668

For $506 you get Spiderman 3, your choice of a blu ray, your choice of a game, an extra controller, and an HDMI cable.

Call your local Blockbuster - they probably have them in stock. You might want to call around to your local walmarts too, or even hit your local Targets.

I was millimeters away from buying a PS3 this past weekend, but went with a 360 instead. Of course, I already have a stand alone BD player, and the Xbox met my needs/desires more than the PS3 does, but if I didn't have a BD player I would have gone with a PS3 no doubt.

Anyway, my point is they're out there even with the Spiderman 3 movie inside. I'd also go with the 80 gig if you can find it, if you've got a PS2 and want to play those games too. The 40 gig won't play them for some odd reason.

I bought my PS3 at $600 so I feel little empathy but if it's too much either buy used, buy one from Sony Style while opening a credit line, if still offered or wait. They've had 2 price reductions in 1 year. That tells me they are either going to drop further, like the rumored $299 price cut or they will stay at this price for a long time.

If you don't have the disposable income to purchase luxury items, you probably shouldn't...... many people do anyways, but I'm just saying......

As a college student it always becomes the question on what to spend the disposable money on . There is never much to go around but there is always some floating.

As far as empathy or sympathy I wasn't looking for any, I know many who linger around on the forum paid much for their players and if I could have I would have; but like I said before it seems that price of a player is the most dominant thing keeping the average consumer out of the blu-ray market not the price of actual movies.

Give it time and prices will come down as more players come into the market and sales increase. With HD-DVD finished, all the studios will be putting out more movies on Blu-ray, creating more opportunities for sales and special pricing events. Market forces are your friend...

I agree. Wide-scale adoption will probably begin by summer, at the earliest, once manufacturers get into full production, and the lunatic ravings of the "just download it" crowd die down.

You'll see $200 players by June, $150 entry level units by Christmas. Possibly even lower.
