Default Panny BD30 or PS3 as player? Updated (poll)

Okay, I currently own a PS3 and I love it. I want another player for the bedroom and I just read a review on the Panny BD30 that says its a "way better player than the PS3". So my question is, what makes it such a better player?

I was thinking about getting another PS3 but if the Panny really is so much better I may want to get one for my main home theater and move the PS3 to the bedroom. One thing that the BD30 does that the PS3 doesnt is bitstream DTS-HDMA which is awesome. I have the Onkyo 605 as seen in sig and it can decode the DTS-HD.....

SO, is the picture quality that much better for the BD30 or what makes it such a better player? Some say that the PS3 will eventually get the DTS-HD, some say it wont. So I may not want to go PS3 because I do want the DTS-HD.

Well, thats the question. Any responses would be great and if anyone owns both or has owned both the BD30 and the PS3 what is your take on each as a player?

Thanks!!!

(Reposted Thread with poll, Not sure If I could have added one to the other one but mods can delete other thread of you desire)

i think theyre comparable but why dont you just put the PS3 you have now in the bedroom and wait for those sweet new sony players or the BD50?! i think most would agree with me on this.

I wouldnt get either one and wait for the new standalones either the Panasonic DMP-50 or one of the new Sony machines. Having another PS3 seems really silly. Ask yourself this, would you buy the same exact car that you already own? Or would you shop around and look for something newer with different features?

That is true to some extent...but the obvious answer is that I do also game and the PS3 offers the advantage of playing games in both rooms if I feel like being lazy and playing in bed or something. But I will say that more/different features would be sweet....

What is the price of the Sony BD50s coming out?

Will the PS3 be quiet enought for you in the bedroom?
Do you have network availability there?
Do you want one remote to control the TV and BD player?

Answering these questions might help you choose one over the other.

As far as PQ (in a bedroom) and load speeds they are a wash.
So your main concerns are usability ones.

Thank you everyone who has replied so far, I notice no one has really commented on the difference in picture quality between the to...

Is there any difference that is noticable or are they basically the same PQ wise? I have never seen a BD30 in action but I know alot of people on here seem to love them.

Right on, that is a good point. I do hate how stinkin loud that thing is!!! No networking in the Bedroom but it wouldnt be hard with the PS3 being wireless ready. The 80 gig is still wireless ready right? (I know my 60 is)

Playing video games in the bedroom never worked for me, great in theory though. I think the new Sony machines run at $400 and $500, not sure on the Panasonic.

I think the PS3 is a great blu-ray player so saying I'd go with the 40-gig PS3 probably isn't a surprise. The DTS-HD MA is a risk though. While it is supposed to becoming, I don't think we've had an official statement on that. Anyway, I'm hoping to pick up a 3rd PS3 soon (a 40-gig) basically for the same purpose (the bedroom). My current 60-gig ones (2) are really quiet though (can't tell they're on) but if I did get a noisy one, that would be a show-stopper. The wireless networking is definitely a selling point for me (needed for the bedroom), as is the bluetooth remote (since the PS3 won't be in the line of sight for a IR remote) but the DTS-HD MA issue doesn't matter all that much (in this case) since I don't have a full-blown HT system there. At some point I'm sure I'll give a standalone a shot but I'm guessing it'll be a 2-3 years. Right now, I'm so use to the speed of the PS3 that anything slower would just annoy me.
