Be patient we are waiting the announcement soon.As many here said Paramount can beback sooner whereas Universal needs a little time,Dont forget an important factor Universal needs to revise their authoring titles from begining and not only a crap copy from HD-DVD Note: Look at the news on the front page |

I have the feeling that they were taken aback by Toshiba anouncing HD DVD 's demise earlier than they anticipated.
Not that they thought the format was going to win at this point, but something tells me they were hoping to be able to prepare for Neutrality before closing shop on HD DVD (to be able to sell exisitng stocks that is). Now they have to rapidly prepare to switch lines from HD DVD to Bluy Ray, get started on encodes on films that were supposedly HD DVD only, etc. (e.g. Cloverfield, There will be Blood and co). Me think they are only waiting to be able to get out a full release slate for the most awaited titles. Wouldn't surprise me to have by the end of March a list including There will be..., Beowulf, Cloverfield, and of course TF, Shrek3 (yuck) and the Bournes (yay!). |

From what I've read, Paramount's waiting to see if Toshiba will want some of their $150 million payoff money back if Paramount releases on Blu-ray before the 18 months is up. The contract was also mentioned as the reason Paramount was willing to stick with HD DVD even after the Warner announcement and HD DVD's dismal 4th quarter sales. I don't know if this is true or not so take it with 150 million grains of salt.

Patience. Paramount and Universal were not prepared for Toshiba's announcement. It typically takes several months to have a movie prepared, configured and ready for release on media. In this case, at least the HD mastering work and surround sound codecs would already be prepared for the planned HD-DVD versions. It still would take a bit work to change the processing, artwork and manufacturing over to Blu-ray.

are you serious? another one of these questions? Give them time...they will announce them...it isn't like they have anything coming out here in the next month that is worthwhile...

i suspect the rapid collapse of HD-DVD took EVERYONE by surprise. that left paramount an uni with having to scramble to at least voice support without any firm plans.

like Chau808 pointed out with Dreamworks comments there is not only the obvious logistical issues but all the studios supporting HD DVD also tend to have some kind of contractual attachment to HD DVD with Toshiba and so they might want to see those ramifications before going full throttle.
For exampe the "rumour" was that Paramount got 50M and PW 100M to go HD DVD exclusive. That it was not a lump sum but discussed as promotional payments over the life of the contract and that there is an opt out clause with penalties for the studio. If this is true, then we could be in a dilemma if Paramount announces BD support do they have to pay the penalty? does Toshiba still need to pay the remainder even though they called it quits? My guess is that the former HD DVD studios are cutting back on HD DVD (have you seen the DVD adds from them? not only is HD DVD not mentioned but the ones I saw don't even show it) while starting and working on BD, but will wait until the legal implications are known before making formal announcements so that they don't affect the legal issues. |

I think their waiting till they have the conversion from film to BD is actually done until they announce. Or they'll be sly like Paramount has been recently and have the movies just appear on the shelves. Just like magic!
