There is no option for NONE. So I'm not voting.

The price right now is not a factor but in the future it certainly won't be the cheapeast Bluray player and definitely will not be the best featured player out there on the market.

So thats what will be its shortcoming...

Personally I'm waiting for a standalone 2.0...

Since I purchased the PS3, the only thing I didn't like, is the optical and HDMI could not output sound at the same time. Sometimes I don't want to hear the surround sound up loud like late at night, and I have to go into the settings and change the output to the hdmi cable. That is my only gripe. Other than that, the PS3 is a must own machine.

My xbox 360 outputs sound from both optical and hdmi or component at the same time with no adjustments. Too bad Microsoft doesn't have a blu-ray add-on.

I think the fan/noise issue is larger than people really think

I met a lot of yougsters who ask me about the fan/noise issue, most of them think the PS3 requiers an additional fan to work properly

The only issue I have is the lack of DTS-MA decoding. The rest is basically insignificant to the average person.

Easier to do when the 360 does not support ANY HD audio tracks, even the "elite" with the mighty 1.2 HDMI they use...

I will go with price as that seems to be biggest restraint for mainstream acceptability.

High Price: yeah, i'd think that's the biggest drawback right now, especially since the PS3 is still viewed as soley a gaming machine and not the media centre it is.
Fan Noise and Heat: not a problem anymore with the arrival of the 65nm cell.
Regular usage resulting in high electricity bill: not that big of a deal, but some of us do pay our own bills and it is the reason i don't run folding at home the other 23 hours of the day.
Inability to decode DTS-HD MA: the average consumer doesn't know anything about audio codecs, so no this isn't a disadvantage.
Inability to simultaneously output audio on HDMI / Optical in a proper fashion: personally i would love this, but again the average consumer won't care about it.
Inability to decode LPCM audio as DTS or DD and bitstream via Optical: again, average consumer doesn't know this kind of stuff.
Inability to adjust Picture controls: normally you'd expect to make these adjustments on the TV itself, so no.
Region Locked for both Blu-rays and SD DVDs: lack of region coding is partially what scared half the studios away from HD-DVD, so i'd say this is actually a good thing.

I think you get DTS and DD from the menu. Not really sure though. I will check it out. No where near the decoding of the PS3. That is an important feature to most, but I can roll with plain old DTS or DD.

My only issues would be DTS-MA which I'm hoping will come here shortly as a firmware upgrade if possible and since I have an old receiver without HDMI, I wish it had analog outs so I could get lossless audio.

I will eventually get a new receiver.

The PS3 has been awesome.
