i was in circuit city the other night and they had pirates of the caribbean on and it was on a 1080p set it looked so clear that it was almost fake... i have a 720p set and i have not ever seen anything like that and i think it looks great on my tv but it looked terrible on that 1080p set.... obviously i know its supposed to be clearer on 1080p but to the point where the film looks rediculously fake?

I wish CC would just stick a blu-ray in and show the consumer what they are going to be viewing at home, not those Sony loop demos that are meant for enhancing the view..
What used to get me was they would have a Toshiba A-35 hooked to a 1080p TV and a Sony Blu-ray player hooked to a 720p TV, they would have them side by side and King Kong looked better on HDDVD than the BD counterpart. I would always point that out though. |

a 1080p set only means it has a horizontal resolution of 1080 lines. More is not always better and not all 1080p sets are the same. A good example of this is that sony has 4 diferrents 1080p sets in the 40 inch format v-w-xbr4-xbr5 series.

It was probably the Samsung 71 series HDTV. I actually own the 52" version. Love the TV...the 120hz feature has settings "off", "Low", "Medium", "High" and "Demo". So if you don't like it you can shut it off. Anyways, the tv is awesome!

I actually kind of like the look for the most part and decided to get a 120hz set just so I'd have access to it (even if I end up disabling it). I thought it would be something fun to experiment with. But, the last time I was watching the demo, I noticed that when there was some sudden action, there was an area around the moving figure that was blurry. Almost like the water-special-effect in the movie The Abyss. It was really strange looking, kind of like a watery, transparent outline around what was moving. I then understood the artifact type comments people had been making about it. I still want it though, just to be able to experiment with it and I believe some said sporting events (football) look pretty cool with it.
No matter how people feel about it, it definitely draws attention. I've gone to check out the sets several times now and every time I have, there has been someone that was walking by that just stopped in their tracks to check out the picture. So I can see why they run the demos (with the motion-flow enabled). Last edited by owa; 02-27-2008 at 12:40 AM. |

Every store should at least have 1 person who knows how to showcase hardware and software titles!! It really happens more than you think that they just hook up the stuff when it comes in, not checking for the right connections and setups at all. If some of them would just invest a little time in research and hook it up the right way I am sure they will be making more sales > thus get more commission!!!
Seen it so many times... I remember when we bought our 52" Sony, we checked at Circuit City because it was cheaper, but 2 sales people were not able to tell us all the specs and the picture quality looked horrible, because it wasn't set right. So we decided not to buy it. 2 weeks later I see the same TV at Sears and it looked awesome, first sales person didn't know anything either, but the young kid we grabbed at least got he manual and showed some interest in making a sale... so we ended up getting it right then. |
