Default Michael Mann's The Keep

Arguably Michael Mann's worst work, The Keep is still a very interesting film. It's still unavailable on DVD. After waiting for what seemed like forever for a DVD release, I eventually had to give in and watch a very poor quality video of it on youtube a couple of years ago.

While the movie itself is a bit of a mess, its cinematography is gorgeous, its atmosphere is completely unique, and its Tangerine Dream soundtrack is awesome. It also sports a great cast that includes Scott Glenn, Gabriel Byrne, Jürgen Prochnow and Ian McKellen.

If I remember correctly, the version released to theaters was cut by Paramount without Mann's approval. The rumor has it that there are several hours worth of cut material out there. I would LOVE to see Michael Mann supervise a director's cut of the film for release on Blu-ray.

Always wanted to see this film, no matter if it is bad or not. Only way I can find to get a decent widescreen transfer is the Laserdisc which is never cheap on ebay. (also on pan/scan LD)

I doubt we'd ever get a BD release since we never got a DVD one. Who knows though

I have a small collection of VHS titles that never made it over to domestic DVD releases or foreign releases that I could find. The Keep is in that handful of titles... watched it tons of times throughout the years, but now I'm afraid the tape is stretching to the point it won't be watchable much longer. A blu version of this would be dope, but without even domestic DVD sales to justify the transfer over to blu, I won't hold my breath.
