Question Blue Ray/HD DVD Compatibility

I bought a Sony Blue Ray Player/Recorder for my Media Center computer and it will not detect an HD DVD disk. I havn't had the chance to try a Blue Ray disk yet. Is there a special driver? Did I buy the wrong one? Do I need both?
When I went to the Sony site and searched for HD DVD they sold me a Blue Ray, so I thought it did both.

Your Blu-ray burner drive will only read BD discs, provided you were given the right software to do so. So make sure the bundled software does play BD movies. Otherwise return 'em for a better and working bundle.

HD DVD media is smaller and less advanced thats why it does not play on Blu-ray hardware. There are not many players that support hd dvds and they may become obsolete soon...

Blu-ray media can be purchased from:

http://video.movies.go.com/bluray/ - Buena Vista Home Entertainment
http://foxbd.com/ - Twentieth Century Fox
http://www.disneybluray.com/ - Disney Blu-ray

... and many many more. Almost all Hollywood studios release on Blu-ray media.
