NetFlix to Expand Blu-ray Selection
The by-mail rental service expects demand to rise.
By Swanni

Washington, D.C. (February 28, 2008) -- NetFlix says it will quadruple its selection of Blu-ray discs to meet the growing demand for the high-def format.

That's according to an article by Video Business.

In a statement revising its future subscriber count -- it now expects 8.26 million subs on March 31, up from the previous forecast of 8.05 million -- the by-mail DVD rental service said it will add up to 1,500 Blu-ray titles this year.
The company now carries around 400 Blu-ray movies.

But NetFlix CFO Barry McCarthy was non-committal on whether the service will increase the price of a Blu-ray rental, as the company hinted earlier this month.

Toshiba last week announced that it would exit the HD DVD business at the end of March, ceding victor to Blu-ray in the high-def format war.

The decision is expected to increase demand for Blu-ray titles at NetFlix and other retailer and rental outlets.
