Default myth: denon avr 1508 usa and europe versions?

Greetings.

I just had enough at avs forums with this that seemed a pretty silly and simple question. I'm looking at avr-1508 denon receiver and my question was whether it would be able to handle the hd audios of bluray movies through the hdmi connection. What at first seemed a clear a concise NO, became obscured later for some people saying it is possible if the player is the ps3. So then I heard someone say there was a problem with the first units manufactured by denon, so those models are supposed to llack that ability, which was suggested was the case for europe versions in contrast to the american version which was said to be able to handle the audio of bluray uncompressed options with its hdmi port.

Can anyone please clear this out here?

Thanx a lot.

looking at the HDMI specs...

It looks like the 1508 is passthrough only.

Looks like you would need the 1908 or higher for Lossless audio and the PS3.

From Crutchfield:
1080p-compatible HDMI digital video switching (2 in, 1 out) — pass-through only (a separate cable connection is required for audio)

I was shocked when I first read that. I thought the whole point of HDMI was a single connection, so you gotta be a careful shopper and find one that supports audio.
