from projectorcentral.com review:

Overall, I like the Sony AW15 and would recommend it subject to two important caveats: (1) it must be used in a dark viewing space to get the true contrast benefit from it, and (2) the viewer must sit at a distance of at least 1.8x the screen width in order to eliminate the intrusion of pixelation and screendoor effects. However, if you have a theater room that can accommodate these requirements, the AW15 is capable of producing a beautiful picture for the money.
You might want to look at the Optoma HD65 and the Mitsi. HC1500 as the are <1K.

I got one of these a week ago. I'm completely satisfied. It doesn't get great reviews, but there were a few reasons I snagged this one as my first projector. Mostly because there are not many stores around me that carry projectors in the first place and I wanted the ability to just up and return it. So my local sams club just got a combo package of this projector and the sony dynaclear 80" screen. Sams club takes anything back, so I knew if i didn't enjoy it that would not have been a prob. Other than that I was also impressed with that fact that it can accept a 1080/24p signal and do its own downsample to 720. Its the first time I've seen playback with the true 24hz /fps. I love it.

All in all though, the reviews are dead on. You could get better for the money. Could just be that its my first projector but I personally give it a thumbs up.
