Default Best projectors $1,000-$1,500 range

I don't need 3D or anything fancy. Just something that looks damn good in that price range for regular 2D films. 60 Hz

Thank you for all your help in advance. I appreciate any advice or suggestions.

If 3D is a low priority I would say to check out the Panasonic PT-AR100u. She is a light cannon... bright, full HD, good color and respectable contrast ratio for that market segment.

I would suggest the Epson Powerlite Home Cinema 8350. A very solid projector for the price of $1300. I recently built a home theater on a low budget and got this after hearing some good things about it. It is an exceptional projector, 3 chip LCD projector 1080p and makes no sound at all, very quiet. My blu rays look amazing on it. I am very happy with the purchase.

Hope this helps.

I personally love the Epson 8350, it produces a great image. For a budget home theater setup, you can't get much better.

It definitely makes your blacks deeper so that those dark scenes in films look very nice and the overall picture looks better. But is making your picture darker and getting those deeper blacks worth another $500-600? That's a matter of personal preference. Personally, I am very content and satisfied with my epson 8350. Some videophiles would beg to differ but I like the way my movies look and could not be happier with the epson 8350.

Epson 8350
Mitsubishi HC-4000
maybe the Optomo 3010

the 8350 has lens shift and is EASY peasy to setup in a room with that feature. the HC-4000 throws a better picture but without lens shift it takes more precise measurements to get the perfect angle, height etc.

I've owned the 8350 which I replaced with the AR100U and I prefer the AR100. I use a 134" screen in a light controlled room, but the 8350 just wasn't bright enough for me, especially once I had over 600 - 800 hours on the bulb. If brightness is a concern I'd definitely go with the AR100U.

Also, on the 8350 I had a recurring issues that others on AVS forum have reported - when powering up I'd get a blue error screen message about the auto-iris. I used my 8350 daily and this occurred around once every week or so.

I haven't seen the AR100 yet but I have heard good things about it. I own a Epson 8350, JVC X3 and a Viewsonic Pro8100 I use the 8350 for TV and games which I love, I have had zero issues with it and it is really bright and very sharp. The low lag times really help with FPS games like COD. I Also have a 2.4 Gain screen so the image really pops. The JVC with the 2.4 gain screen rivals the best plasma's out there for 2D movie quality.

if that starts happening to your 8350, turn on your blu-ray player and receiver first THEN the projector. sending a signal to the PJ seems to fix that for some bizarre reason. My buddy had the exact same issue on his 8350 till he started doing that regularly
