Blu Ray player prices -will- go down this year

While the disc format war opposing Blu Ray and HD DVD is definitively over, a new step must be taken to hope that the widening of the High Def market occurs along predicitons. It is of course to lower prices of the Blu Ray players, still considered too high by some consumers.
This is in that regard that can be seen recent informations given by the format's backers. With this, Michael Langbehn from the Panasonic group that defends Blu Ray since the beginning could confirm a this year's CeBit in Hanovre that the player prices will go down this year.
This being said, no -significant- drop will be seen until 4 to 5 months. Langbehn also conceided the fact that the 300 euro limit will not be passed until the mass production begins, which should not occur according to him for another 2 to 5 years.

In other interviews given by acive partisans of blu Ray discs are a bit more optimistic. Stan Glascow from Sony Electronics told the famous editor Gizmodo that the $300 limit will be passed this year. "I do not think that the $200 limit will be broken this year though. Next year, it just might happen. We will be around $300 this year."

The competition between various CE makers could nonetheless bring these to lower their prices faster than anticipated, benefitting both the consumers and demand.

Man -- sure home they hit sub $200 by Xmas. I honestly think Blu could lose out to downloads if they don't get the player prices (and media prices to a lesser extent) down, and down fast.

I love real HDM (whether HD DVD or Blu) -- but I would hate to see both formats get plowed under by inferior quality downloads.

Imho a MSRP at $299 (what they call $300) will be the start of Mass adoption (note: "start". The real mass adoption price will be around $199 MSRP).

This is because the MSRP is one thing, but with retailer competition, and the number of products coming our way (let's be honest, right now the best players is PS3 vs BD30K) it is very likely that we'll see prices between $229 and $269 in stores by Fall/ Thanksgiving.
