Sweeet. It's a bit sad that Fox gave up on their Studio Classics line as this would have sure been a release from them, but this does hopefully open the doors for Kino to release them now. There's so many great ones in there. This could have easily gone to Twilight Time too, so this is pretty big for Kino.

Glad this review came up so early. Just cancelled my pre-order. I got the German disc already and I would have gladly upgraded for a substantial improvement in quality but this does not seem to be the case here...suprising too for a 4k scan, source materials must be limiting.

The reviewer states the picture has a slightly blurred appearance, and you can certainly see that in the screenshots. Additionally, Kino Lorber again offers no subtitles for the hearing impaired. In this day and age, that is unforgivable. I see the upcoming Arrow release includes subtitles. Maybe it is time to buy a region-free Blu-ray player? I just don't understand companies like Kino Lorber, Olive Films, etc., who many times release classic films on Blu-ray but include no subtitles. I don't use subtitles myself, but I have family members who are hard of hearing who use them regularly. Last edited by jimqk; 06-11-2016 at 08:52 AM. |

very concerned about pq rating, given that Fox would have been the entity providing the materials.
Could the negative have been beeen lost or destroyed, thus a possible reason for the less than stellar pq of this disc? or did one company or another do too much grain scrubbing? when the reviewer mentions how "clean" it looks all I can think about is that the job was botched. maybe the kind Kino rep can offer some comments on why this disc turned out so poor--as say compared to a release like Fox's amazing bd of The Grapes of Wrath. a comparison with the Arrow release will prove very helpful I think, and possibly answer some of these questions. I mean this is a long awaited bd of a seminal American classic film we are talking about, not some dumb B movie. |
