Default Bill Gates no longer #1!

If this is already posted, sorry about it, just got a good laugh considering all the lawsuits and bad press they (Microsoft) are getting that they are blaming the Yahoo bid for the loss of stock pricing.

Nice to see blind, immature and baseless hatred of Bill Gates is still alive and well on these boards.

You do realize that just because someone is "worth" that much, doesn't mean anything? These types of reports are all hype and filler, because none of these people have that much cash on hand--it's all stock, investments and "holdings", most of which they probably can't even access if they wanted to.

While you all were so busy hatin' on Bill, you overlooked the fact that a notorious Lebanese-turned-Mexican telco exec's worth more than doubled in the last 2 years, to nearly $60 billion dollars, thanks to ownership of several telco companies ran exclusively by him and his sons. That should raise some eyebrows...

Russian oil barons too...

UK defence 'contractors' are probably excluded for various reasons as well.

These lists are never very good, Richard Branson once said that he was put into the Times Rich List with a net worth of £800m, but he couldn't afford to move out of his houseboat. I wouldn't put too much stock into any of them...

Are these figures based on Bill giving his money away or these other people actually getting richer. Whatever you think about MS work practise you cannot fault the guy for giving away his money to worthwhile causes.

Amen to that. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is primed to become more worthwhile to humanitarian work than the Red Cross. This is why Warren Buffett, the #1 richest man in the world, is giving the bulk of his fortune to that foundation.

But again, the big picture is who ELSE is on this list, and what exactly THEY are doing with their various warchests.

Yep - and since he only made 2 billion dollars last year, he is well on his way to broke.
