Default walmart and blu ray

i went to the local walmart here in new hampshire, and there were no blu ray dvd on the shelf anymore. I asked the manager where they were and he said:" we are not going to sell the blu ray anymore". I said:" why not?" and he answered:" its a dead medium." I went back and forth with this guy, who again, is the MANAGER of the electronics dept in walmart, about how blu ray was not the "dead" one, and he finally said, "maybe someday we'll sell them again." WTF? has anyone else ran into this with walmart? They had a section of blu ray 2 weeks ago, and now they are all gone!!

The problem is that you went to Walmart. Stop doing that, and you'll be fine.

My local Wal-Mart just actually expanded its Blu section and moved it to a higher traffic area nearer the DVD new releases, as opposed to the video game and PS3 area.

Mine too. This was the store manager or dept. manager?

Don't knock Wal-Mart. Should thank them for that enormous nail in the HD-DVD coffin.

i have to agree with kratos...i went to Sam's club Thursday night to pick up Ultimate Avengers Double Feature, a Blu i had seen there the week before and found that the whole blu section was gone and got a similar explanation, although the manager could not explain why if Blu was dead, why they still sold blu players...

i chalk it up to ignorant managers who misinterpret inter company memos...check back soon, i am sure one visit from the District managers will clear this problem right up...

EDIT: FYI, my Sam's is in Bangor Maine...

first, you are right about going to walmart in the first place. The guy told me that he was the "electronics manager", i should call the store manager and inform him about the future of blu-ray. I usually mail-order from amazon, but sometimes i just need instant gratification- and walmart is pretty much the only game in town.

There's nothing wrong with buying BDs at Wal-mart. If they have better prices why not. If they don't have the better price get the movies else where.

like i said, i would contact the local DM, probably could get results that way, i think you could get the info from the wal mart corporate website, or just go in and try to find that big poster with the managers name and number, usually the district manager will have his or her name there too. as someone who has managed many a retail job, i can tell you that nothing lights a fire under the managers butt like a P.Oed DM on the phone....

Local Wally-world has tripled the selection of blus over the past month (the last time I was in the store)

The op's dept. manager is an imbecile.

Plenty of bargains at Amazon.com.

Prices on BDs aren't that great at the Wal-Marts here either. Some are $24.95. Just about all the Fox discs are $29.99.

At least it isn't like FYE. Gawd. They're charging full MSRP in most cases. I can swing $25 for a new BD release versus paying $18-$20 for it on DVD. But $40? I'll pass on that. I guess they're priced that way at such "in the mall" stores for impulse buying chumps who don't know any better.

Our Sam's Club has better prices on Blu-ray Discs. The problem is their selection pretty much sucks. Not nearly enough discs. Surprisingly, they had a number of Paramount BDs on display well before HD-DVD had its official death. Guess I'll be pulling out that Sam's card and checking prices there first. Had a habit of doing that when DVD was in its early years.
