Wow, I need to check this out. Cardiff was an absolutely brilliant cinematographer, and he deserves a documentary devoted to himself.

Oh, absolutely. I can't say I've seen all of them, but the ones I did see, blew me away in terms of cinematography alone.

Indeed, I held off on the UK DVD because I had hoped to see a BD release. You would think a documrntary about a cinematographer would be a natural candidate, and I'm glad to see it will be out here, though as it is from Strand, I will await reviews.

Agree. Strand? Skeptical.

I was really hoping for Criterion to step in, as they did have the title mentioned on their site.

Why?

Their SDVD output should not be indicative of their (future) Blu-ray output.

Looks to be a superb documentary, but at MSRP of $34.99, that still will leave this at a +$24.99 mark, roughly.
At 90 mins., I hope it goes down quite a bit, say near $20 or so.

Looks like this title sold out really fast on amazon earlier in the week. Seems to be back in stock now. It isn't the cheapest price at all, but I really want to see it this weekend so I ordered it on my prime account.

anyone else already watch it? (If so does the release come with a slipcover?)

I watched this tonight. It's a great documentary about a superb cameraman - and let's not forget he directed some movies, too.

The doc looks great, and the clips range from crystal clear to adequate. The best clips seemed to me the ones from the Powell-Pressburger films, which perhaps shouldn't be a surprise. Some of the other ones, notably The Vikings and War and Peace, looked a bit hazy - those movies have yet to receive a HD transfer, to the best of my knowledge, so perhaps the filmmakers were limited in the clip availability?

Haven't seen the extras yet, but will do so soon.

I thought the film was decent however I have seen many of the interviews already! I was shocked I was watching interviews that were included on other releases etc. For someone who has NOT seen any of them the DOC is a lot more interesting, some felt like a retread to me. I am not bashing it because it is a decent release. I just wish there was a little bit more.

Yes, a wonderful documentary about Jack. It was on UK TV a few months back but I did pick the DVD up for £3:

Shame Optimum UK never bothered with a Blu-ray (maybe their calculations that it had been on TV made it worth-less). The original ($35) US price for the Blu-ray is rather over-priced though.

Jacks's mouth watered when he talked about Audrey Hepburn
