Just so everyone knows. Wiis bought at launch cannot play Super Smash Brothers. I bought it at midnight last night and tried to play and the game kept getting stuck before going in and kept saying "unreadable disc" so I brought it back to Walmart to get another copy and it did it again, so I checked the wii website and says the game is thick because of so much data on the disc and the original Wiis that came out wont be able to play it. So you have to send your Wii to nintendo with the game for no cost and they will return it in 7 days

Mine worked fine. I don't have problem getting unreadable disc. I can play and access to WiFi. Maybe I have the latest Wii machine.

Edit: I just beat 11th Stages + Mastermind. At the End Credit, there's a bobblehead shot of characters. After that I have to beat one more hidden character. Finally, I've unlocked new 2-3 Stages and got an ugly music track, lol!

A buddy of mine said the same thing but I have had my Wii since Launch Day 11/19/06 and just finished playing SSBB with what seemed to be no problems at all...

That's inaccurate. According to Nintendo (http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/rep...rm_us_ssbb.jsp) the issue is not with launch consoles, but those that have dirty lenses.

Also, the disc itself is not thicker, it's just a dual layer disc. Surprising that such a thing is a problem, since dual-layer DVD has been used for games for years now.

It's probably because of either A- Cheap drives, or b-vertical orientation

Try putting your deck so that the bottom of the disc faces down. Optical drives as a rule do not like vertical orientation,

I didn't get the logic of "game is thicker due to big data" . I have a launch-day Wii as well with no problems playing SSBB. Lucky me?
