Default Japan File Share users to be banned from internet if caught!

http://www.techcrunch.com/2008/03/15...-file-sharers/

Worst idea ever. Let the kids file share on the internet.

Keeps them away from me when I play SSBB online.. damn kids are nuts at it.

There's precident. The city of Osaka banned the sale of used video games because Nintendo and Konami demanded it.

Just because you ban something doesnt mean its still not there. It makes people want it more.

Didn't that happen in the NES days?

I remember reading something about that.

It actually was about 10 years ago I think

Game rental has always been forbidden in Japan for the same reason. Nintendo tried to get rental banned here as well. When First Sale doctrine defeated them, they tried to sue for the manuals being photocopied at rental stores.

I love how people always scream about Sony's various transgressions, but you never hear the *****ing about Nintendo who is 10x worse. The fact that they financed Joe Lieberman's campaign to start the video game witch trials in Congress to eliminate their competition (Sega), the fact that they threatened retailers that if they carried Sega, or promoted them in any manner they could experience "shortages" of NES product (and did the same to third parties, saying that their allocation of cartridges they were allowed to make may be reduced)

So yes, there's a lot of things they can get away with in Japan that will likely never happen here because there, the game companies are an extraordinarily powerful lobby
