Default Foreign Movies

I've been dying to know a couple things about this and I couldn't imagine a better place to ask this. So basically I like asian movies (Korean, Japanese Chinese) and wanted to know if any of their movies will be avaliable on Blu-ray.

If they are will it only be within their own country and be just as hard to get as a DVD. Will their movies be sold normally in other countries? I read Japan and Korea have the same region code as us for blu-ray's, what does that mean?

I just wanna know if it's possible to grab some asian movies on blu-ray and if it'll be sold normally in other countries now that it's on blu-ray.

The move to make movies available on BD will be slow on any countries, including Asia. Countries that will be up to speed will be Japan, HK and Korea.

By "normally" as in retail like Walmart, that's highly unlikely. The best is if you import directly from online stores still. The good news is that you don't have to get multiple players and you don't need expensive multi-region players much; at the most you need three if for some reason Russian, Indian and Middle Eastern movies strike your fancy.

The reason why retail won't stock up is the cost is too prohibitive to import to justify a handful of customers ordering them. Some of these movies have distribution partners who have the rights to theatrical and home video.

So it won't happen the way you want it to be. But if you're up to date about it, you can beat the speed to which you get your movies.
