Honestly, they are both a joke compared to the novella. I'd recommend reading it instead of watching those.

I have not seen Omega Man in a while but to me I am legend is pretty much the same movie. I like them both, I like any movie with themes of earth like that. Makes me think what I need to get ready for when shit like that goes down, No zombie is gonna get me.

Chuck Heston rules man. Don't forget the Vincent Price version.

The best versions would have been Arnold + Cameron. The CGI characters would not have been a joke like they are right now. Apart from Will Smith, this movie is a big joke.

Will Smith "Hi man, I played your character in that WWW movie"

Robert Conrad "You know next I'm gonna play Martin Luther King !"

i honestly liked omega man better. yea its old and dated, but the idea was better i thought. i liked how the "infected" were still human like. the will smith one, why oh why was it all cgi?! and why did they scream like the mummy? i liked i am legend, but just for a fun popcorn flick, omega man though i liked a lot better. but this is just my opinion. its funny. i told my bro he had to watch omega man. he put it in, 10 min later he comes in my room saying what the hell is this shit? its so chessy! haha its old, so i guess its not for everyone.

I Am Legend is far better, but Omega Man can still be enjoyed as goofy fun.

Having seen all three, I can safely say that the Will Smith version is IMO the best one. The Charlton Heston one was decent, but more of a rental for me nowadays, although I did watch it alot growing up. Didn't care for the Vincent Price one at all.

Both the new IAL and OM have their strengths, and a whole heck of a lot of weaknesses. OM hasn't dated well, but there's an honesty about it and a refreshing lack of script meddling that is ultimately IAL's (the movie that is) big downfall in the last act (the ending of IAL is awful).

Also, I'll take the cloaked quasi-religious nutters over the dumb looking cgi zombies anyday. That said, the first 2/3rds of IAL, even with the cgi lunkheads, are quite effective and Will Smith turned out to be an excellent choice.

However, these two versions are forever and day removed from the original source material by Matheson. The closest version of that still remains as Vincent Price's LAST MAN ON EARTH (supposed to be directed by Fritz Lang... but TV director Sidney Salkow ended up doing it). Again, time hasn't been too kind and the low budget shows, but there are some quite effective sequences that give a hint of what could've been.

The best version was never made... Ridley Scott's version. The rewrites done by frequent Scott collaborator John Logan had turned it into something quite haunting, with some memorable sequences that unfortunately we can only imagine how cool they would have been with Ridley at the helm.

Either that version, or maybe the script Matheson actually wrote himself for Hammer Films back in the day, which was never produced on the advice of the British Censor.

"Night of the Comet" beats them all.

I love the genre.. Omega man is great though if you can get passed the "Playboy Mansion"-style penthouse Heston lives in.

I mean it pretty much created a genre of post-apocalyptic movies.

I haven't seen "I Am Legend" yet. Getting it tomorrow.

I've watched all 3 movies, read the story and IMO I liked the will smith one better. Some things could have been changed, but over all I think they did a pretty good job.

**BUZZER**

Sorry, wrong answer son, try next time for double jeopardy.

I Am Legend sucked ass, at least the Omega Man didn't do something completely asinine like forgetting to jump on one leg to get to a car.

TOTALLY took me out of the movie, might have been enjoyable except for one idiotic piece of writing that was only put in to 'create suspense'

Logan
