Thumbs up Source: Blu-ray Movies Price Going Down

http://www.tgdaily.com/content/view/36498/98/

Quote:
So, how will the content industry react to this dilemma? Our sources told us that big price cuts are on the way. Apparently, DVDs are expected to settle at the $10 range, while Blu-ray discs (single discs) will be aiming for a $20 target.
Quote:
but we also learned that hardware manufacturers are now stepping in to bring retail prices of Blu-ray players down. Sony is reported to slash the price of its PS3 console as soon as the current promotion with BD movies ends at the end of this quarter.

$20 is a magic number for movies on disc. the sooner that this can be implemented the better

Here's to seeing the average MSRP price of a Blu Ray at $19.99 soon (and often found at $14.95 on Amazon and co)!

As per the PS3, if Sony gets it down to $349, but even moreso at $299, it 'll do a pure killing. Specially if it is combined with the release of GT5 and MGS4...

Somehow, I wouldn't expect that kind of price before end of year, but who knows?

I doubt the PS3 would get that low. I heard somewhere that they are losing money becaus eof the hardware cost for each PS3... Is that still valid, or has moore's law helped to settle that cost?

Just look at the ranking of I am Legend on Blu-ray at $18 on Amazon. If they made that the standard price they would start to move well. That combined with lowered hardware prices will get the ball rolling.

After reading the article, I have a hard time believing that DVD's will be around $10. I can see Blu-ray coming down to $20 and I welcome that for sure, but if the studios want more people to adopt HD media, then bringing DVD prices down that low would only cause more people to continue buying DVD's. I can honestly say that for some movies, I would much rather pay $10 for the DVD than get the Blu-ray.

Most catelog DVDs are around 10 now.
Many DVD in Costco are bundles, 2-3 movies for $10.

This also hinted that Paramount and Universal are still trying to do defame blu-ray.

Our sources at Paramount, Universal and Sony Pictures also told us that the typically distributed “shipped” numbers of Playstation 3 units can be misleading.

I understand that, but from what I got from the article, it was saying that all DVD's would be around $10, catalogue or new release.

Go for it. Choice is good as the HD-DUD fan boys always stated.

I am always willing to pay more for the products I want when I know I'm getting the best of the available best.

Just look at any Best Buy or Circuit City ad these days for many quality movies on DVD for blow out prices of $3.99-$5.99.

To me, that's all SD DVD is worth these days (and I still won't buy them).

Let's see, they've covered higher prices and now lower prices so what's left. Oh, I'm anxiously awaiting their next article where it mentions prices staying the same.

I said SOME movies, not every movie. I wouldn't care if the DVD of I Am Legend was $.99, I would still buy the Blu-ray because of the quality of the audio/video. But what I was trying to say was that for people who are on a budget, and with the way the economy is right now, most people are, $10 for a new release DVD is very enticing.

i know what you're saying. it doesn't make sense to say the obvious, then again. some people use the shipped number as sold. so there ya go

Except it isn't only Para and Uni. The original quote in your post was:

Let's not look for conspiracies where there aren't any.
