Default PS3 Blu-Ray Playback Issue

So I just recently got a new TV along with a 40 GB PS3. Absolutely love Blu-Rays and the TV is amazing but whenever I play a blu-ray disc on the PS3 at some point during the movie the screen flashes black for about 1 second and then continues on fine.

It is not consistent since I try going back to the same scene and it plays fine. But it happens once during the playback on all the blu-rays I own. It doesn't seem to lose any audio but just completely black for .5 - 1 second.

I have the PS3 running HDMI directly to the TV right now. I also have my DishHD running through HDMI and I've never had any problems with video on it.

Any suggestions about this problem? It's just so inconsistent that it's hard for me to test. Thanks everyone!

FYI TV model Sony KDS60-A2020

Does this happen when playing regular dvd's in your PS3, or w/ games?

Also, you could try switching the PS3 to other HDMI port on your TV and see if the problem persists.

I've only played a couple demos of games so far and I haven't noticed it while playing those but I've only played them briefly. I have watched a couple normal DVDs and I did notice it happen during at least one of the playbacks.

Does this seem to occur when the player is switching clips or is it at some random point in the feature? Also, does it happen when you choose other audio streams?

Do you have an extra HDMI cable you could try? Maybe you have one with a loose connection?

I had a flakely HDMI cable that would do the same thing, although more frequently. The connection was loose. Please consider trying a different HDMI cable.

I'll echo the above. I had the same issue with my PS3. Replaced the cable with a monoprice one, and presto! No more problems.

I went home tonight and first tried lightly moving the cable and we noticed that immediately the screen flashed black for about 2 seconds while playing a game demo. I then tried replugging at both ends and then moved the cable some more and from there out didn't see any loss of video. It was probably the bass from the sub and/or the cable being loose on one end. It was a brand new Pure AV HDMI and seems to be a quality cable. It always seems to be the most simplest of things. Sorry to be an idiot!

Thanks for all the suggestions and I'll keep an eye on it.

Which receiver are you using? Some Denons, like the 2807, exhibited this problem with 1080p video over HDMI.
