Default I think I have decided on my next receiver, Denon-AVR-887

Looks like for my budget the Denon AVR-887 is going to be my next receiver of choice.

I'm not seeing anything else for 700.00 that will do 7.1 LPCM and not have any LFE or HDMI handshaking problems. Plus upconverting analog signals to HDMI is a plus.

I just bought the AVR-2307 which for all intents and purposes is the same receiver. I had to order it, but I get to go pick it up on Friday. I basically came to the same conclusion as you though. I couldn't find anything else for the price that did everything that this receiver does.

I'm waiting on some money from a side job I was doing when it comes in I'm upgrading as soon as possible. Right I feel like I'm not getting a true Blu-ray experience with no LPCM but I don't know anyone that has HDMI to even hear LPCM.

LPCM is amazing. I have the Sammy player running 6 ch. analog to an Onkyo receiver and the difference between LPCM and regular DD and DTS is tremendous. Of course it varies from title to title but it will be worth it when you get access to it.

I own this reciever and it is simply amazing for the price. I actually got a good deal on it. Circuit City had a free $100 gift card with online purchase, and somehow I got the discount to apply to that order. So I got it for $600 and free shipping. Great deal.

Do guys have a super duper remote to use with your stuff or is the Denon on one sufficient, in reading the threads on AVS it seems alot of people don't like the remote, also they said it was double-sided?

I use Harmony remotes to control all of my equipment, but that's mainly to make it easy for my girlfriend. I've held the Denon remote and its really weird. It has all of the main/basic functions on the front and then on the rear a flap opens up and gives you access to more commands.

The remote is used for one thing, turning on the receiver and changing the volume. Thats it. The reverse side will only be used when you do initial setup, and its not that bad.

This is hilarious. Guess what I bought today?

A Denon AVR-2307CI (the specialty retailer version of the AVR-887).

Let me know what you think.

(GLORIOUS!!!)

Sorry.

P.S. This is the 3rd or 4th time I haven't had a lick of trouble with HDMI handshaking to a DVI+HDCP equiped set.

What the heck is wrong with HD DVD players if they are having so many HDMI issues?

Guys:
These receivers you are talking about are not HDMI 1.3, are they? You are not concerned about that?

Well the PS3 decodes everything but the advanced resolution DTS tracks.
If they do get around to a DTS-MA upgrade, which they hopefully will, there's not much need for an HDMI 1.3 receiver.

The Onkyo 604 is only $499 and does 7.1 LPCM. I think it's only 90w/channel, but for $700 the Onkyo 674 gets 105 W/channel.

Nope. HDMI 1.3 is only good for two things:

(1) If the receiver directly decodes TrueHD or DTS HD-MA
(2) If you have to switch multiple deep colour sources.

I will be looking for a deep colour monitor, but if and when the PS/3 or some other player generates a deep colour output, I expect I'll be able to run the video directly and then patch over from the set to the receiver for audio.

And, worse comes to worse, I've spent $700 on a receiver that I have to replace. Hardly a reason for not enjoying LPCM now.

I'm aware of what HDMI 1.3 does, I personally tend to buy for the long haul so I was just curious as to folks' motivations in buying these products right now or if I had missed the launch of some hdmi 1.3 gear.

I have outboard amps so power is not a concern, but I think I can wait a few months to get something I'm going to keep for a while. My current pre/pro is 5ish years old and I'll be sorry to see it go.

One other thing that came to mind: if you decode on the PS3 wouldn't that bypass the DSP module on most receivers?

I would get the Onkyo 604 myself, however, the LFE bug is all that is stopping me. Seems like the perfect receiver otherwise and street price is LESS then 400 bucks. If it wasnt for the LFE bug, i'd have it right now, but i am now just waiting for a onkyo hdmi 1.3 receiver to show up.

I thought about the 604 but I want upcoversion to HDMI ,no LFE issues, and mainly 7.1 LPCM and ability to source 5.1 LPCM to 7.1. The 604 only does 5.1 LPCM and can't source that to 7.1(making the surround back speakers useless for LPCM which will be my main listening mode) and doesn't upconvert. I'm not worried about HDMI 1.3 because I don't care about deep color and my player can already Decode Dolby True HD and I'm sure will be updated to decode DTS-MA.
