Default % of PS/3 gamers and BD movies

Take a look at a current poll on the PS3Forums:

Did you buy or are going to buy Blu-Ray movies

Currently the yes is 86%. (Edit: now approaching 88%).

i have over 50 BD movies already and plan on getting a PS3 around Feb - March.
Wasnt planning on getting a standalone player but i was itching to watch BD already. Besides theres only 1 game thats worth getting right now for PS3.

On a side note: Thats a very good percentage BTW 86% voted yes.

Of course we'd expect than from a supporter site like this. The argument always was that if you asked on a site dominated by gamers, you'd get a very low result.

This is HUGE if this sentiment extends into results. Absolutely huge.

And it is the sort of sentiment that will wake up Universal to the realities.

I think, as long as people who have a hdtv are buying the ps3, then they will most likely buy a movie or two to check out the format. That should really be all it takes until theyre hooked.

Actually, many people find even T5E to be a good title.

It's so June 2006 to use it a zinger. Time to move on.

That's great news and more proof that the HD DVD camp and supporters are so incredibly WRONG in their opinions about the PS3 and it's Blu-ray capacities.

Bought the PS3 soley to watch Blu-ray - gave the free games that came with it away. V sorry SONY but no extra profit from me on the sale of games

Havn't had it long but it continues to impress - tried playing some high res JPEG's and an awesome result. Was able to handle some images where the various DVD players I have had either rejected the image or it pixilated. Would be intereted to know if other BD players can also handle larger JPEG's - say shot off a 8+ MP camera or is this due to the inbuilt gaming power of the PS3?

Well If I had a PS3 I wouldn't mind having a go with the game Lair...

The demo looked great.

If I knew you were gonna give it away, I'd ask for them games!

Initially I thought of it just for BD capabilities but Resistance, Motorstorm, fLOw and Lair just looks good to not try. Have you tried the demos of these games yet?

How many modes of photo slideshow does the PS3 has? Do you have to crop 'em as 16x9 or does it autocrop?

Me. Sounds great. HDMI 1.1 output is multichannel PCM.

Oddly, the optical output Dolby TrueHD "core" track is DD 448kbps (I thought the core was supposed to be 640kbps on BD). It sounds a lot different from the other Dolby Digital track on the disc.

Cool Perfectly in line with what I see around me. 4 of my friends got PS3. Only 1 of them has 1 game for it, and all of them have seeral BD movies.
So much for FUD about PS3 owners not willing to use it as a BD player.
And certainly better that 1.5% HD DVD addon attach rate.

All the attacks on the PS/3 have absolutely nothing to with how good is it (or not) as a BD movie player.

- People won't use it as a movie player
- Sony is losing money on it (how dare they give me something for nothing!)
- It's a bust because they can't make enough (beat the XBox 360s numbers for launch).
- It won't (currently) upscale games
- Sony is arrogant
- Sony fails at every format they release [sic]

How is it as a BD disc player? Apparently damn good since several of the leading traditional A/V mags are raving about it, and the reviewers are definitely gaming ignorant. If the traditional AVers are going to adopt it, why in the world would anyone think that someone who already owned one wouldn't ultimately use it as a BD disc player, assuming you believe HD discs will catch on?

The PS/3 can be a definite disappointment as a next-gen gaming box, and still be a massive dominating influence for BD movies. And it has just begun its life as the first big contender for a mass adopted HT media server device.
