Default Equaliser settings in onkyo 805

Hi all,

In the set up when I goto the Equaliser setting(7band) Its defaulted to Audyssey. What if I want to change this equaliser settings? Will I be losing all my Auto calibration? Is it good to adjust the settings manually or leave it to Audyssey?

Right now I have done the auto caliberation and the sounds is OK.I mean I have to crank up the volume to -26db to make it audible and clear when I am watching movies in Bluray. Is this normal when caliberated using Audyssey? If i want to change it how should I do it? Any ideas to tweak the set up better.

I have a polk audio RM 6880 satellite speaker system now. Please advice as I am a newbie

Thanks in advance!

Hi, I too have the 805

You can change the equilzer on the 805, I did with my setup. If you do change it, you will only be changing the equilizer. The SP distance and levels that Audyssey has previously set will be unchanged. I found the Audyssey calibration to be a little muddy so I did some minor tweaking. I say go for it, if you don't like the sound of it, then just change the equilizer setting back to "Audyssey".

^+1. You can always re-run Audessey if you don't like the result. Actually I don't think you lose the audessey settings at all, it just overrides some of them. So you can just switch it back to audessey and it'll be like nothing ever happened.
Also, don't worry about having the volume at -26dB. That's not even close to max, it goes all the way up to +18dB. I usually have mine at around -15 to -20dB for watching a movie. -30dB for music.

Hi Macdaddy,

Thanks for the info..Well... i didnt happen to change the Audyssey EQ function..I guess I will play with it a little and see if I can find a difference in sound..I like playing with the EQ always..but I was just wondering whether I will be loosing all my audyssey set up..So thanks for answering.Does Audyssey really decreases the sound level?

Please feel free for any advice to tweak the system better..
Thanks again!

Hi Rike,

Thanks man..Guess I should play with the EQ settings then..Man.... -26 is too much for me..lol my floor rattles already ...I guess both my satellites and my sub are getting a good work out..

Well hope your neighbor doesn't complain lol..I live in a town home community ..though its an end unit I have one common wall attached to the next unit, which is just beyond my sub lol..I got to be careful...Well thanks again!

Jingo

Lucky me I live on a farm. No neighbors for a long ways. I still have to keep it down since everyone in my house goes to bed at like 8pm for some dumb reason. :-\

Depend on you're speaker, if they are difficult to drive. The room size play a lot too.

With my older 10 years old + speaker i needed to got to -5 for it to be really loud. With my new Paradigm -20 is very loud. I'am using a Denon 3808CI. When i was watched the Shakira show at -15db it pretty much simulated the same sound level as a real live show (with my room size) so it was extremely loud.. got buzzing sound after watching it, just like the real thing
