Default What does Digital Video Essentials on Blu-ray tell you about your projector?

Can your projector do 720p properly? How does it handle 1080i60 input? Stuff like that.

Please specify projector model, BD player model and screen size when posting.

Hey,

My projector is a VPHG70 CRT Front projector and my screen is 72"x40" (or just 82" diagonal.)

Using the Test patterns with resolution swatches I was able to determine that my projector is fully resolving 1080p, I'm beyond thrilled.

It also tells me about overscan. I have some now but I think I'm going to readjust it so that I clip a single pixel on each edge. Sometimes noise gets left on the edges of videos for some reason.

I have not made time for it yet but I'll be re-doing my projector's calibration completely soon. (Do it every year and it will be due early May.)

My PJ is requires Focus, Geometry, and Grey Scale all done from scratch and I'll be using DVE for Geometry and Grey Scale. (Focus is done mostly with internal patterns which are sharper but I'll check the results of the focus by looking at the resolution patterns on DVE.)

I suppose I'll also use it with the SPL meter to balance the Speakers again or to check the ballance (It shouldn't have changed since last time but I have the dern meter and it's fun to make it seem useful now and again.)

Anyway,.. I don't want to monopolize the thread. I'm loving DVE. I think it's tutorials should be useful to most people. And with your typical HDTV projector people will be using it for Black Level, White Level, Checking the color decoder performance, and overscan.

Thanks for starting this thread; I am wondering about this as well. I have the Epson TW2000 projector with Sony PS3 for Blu-ray disc playing. Most of the information I find on the DVE disc seems to concern settings for HD TVs.

So, anybody actually used this with a Blu-ray player and projector? And did it make any visual difference?

Thanks, John
