Default PS2 games looking "washed out" on ps3

Does anyone know why and how to fix why my ps2 games getting the medium gray look on my ps3?
Bad emulation or just bad setting?

Ps3 games come out normal and so does blu ray.

I seem to remember it looking more washed out if you don't have the PS/PS2 Upscaler turned on.

Either you dont have the upscaler on, or maybe a setting for the video or television is a bit off.. Ive played several games, Disgaea , GoW2, and they look fine.

Once I get a new system, I never pop in my old games. I just don't get tempted too. I guess its hard going back after what you've now seen with PS3 games.

EDIT: Except for my NES and SNES games. They will always own.

Thanks for the help but when i switch to a ps3 game the blacks become all normal again. So its not a setting on the TV, since I'm using the same setting.

In PS2 I checked upscaling to normal

Unless you are an RPG fan who was never able to get the last batch of PS2 RPGs.

Rogue Galaxy
FFXII
Persona 3
Dragon Quest VIII
Shadow of the Colossus

But, that just me.....my one and only PS2 crapped out with the horrid DRE way before these games made it to the market...so now i can enjoy these beautiful games. After all, graphics aren't everything.

I noticed ps2 games seem to look worse when upscaled to 1080 then in 720 but maybe thats just me.

I'll try to get the xbr4 soon and maybe it wont be a problem if I can use a different setting. But I shouldn't have to use a diff tv setting everytime I play a ps2 game.

Oh yes indeed for FF9, that game is old but cannot be topped from other RPG devs unless its from the very same company who developed it, Square enix.

I played it through 4 x and did everything you possibly could, minus getting the excalibur.

RPGS is the ONLY reason why I would play psone and ps2 games, they are TIMELESS.

exactly.

PS3 games are HD. The blacks are HD. PS2 games are not HD, the blacks are not HD. When stretched out to fit all those pixels, artifacts are revealed, colors become dull, blacks loose their depth, etc. Just like a DVD. turning on the upscaler will help but it will never completely fix a problem of low resolution.

But why is it when the ps2 is hooked up to the same tv, same setting the blacks (and all the other colors) are true and not washed out?

Might try playing it in its original square format.

I am thinking stretching might not be good for the details.

Well upscaling it I noticed makes games that do not have a wide screen option kinda weird.
