Default NFL Owners vote unanimously to opt out of CBA

Still a few years away but as it stands at this moment 2010 will be a lockout year with i believe 2009 being a uncapped year.

Cant blame the owners here, they really need to put a end to unproven rookies getting big dollar contracts straight out of college, they should earn there money not be guarantied 50 million dollar contracts without a single snap in the NFL. They need a rookie pay scale with minimums and maximums.

The NFL players already have the worst contract in the 4 major sports. Looks like there will be a work stoppage coming up.

How many rookie baseball players come out of college making 30+ million of guaranteed money? I think it has more to do with the ridiculous salaries unproven players are getting then what vets are getting.

And i was a little off in the process i believe 2009 will be a regular year with 2010 being uncapped along with the draft process being changed.

Also i just heard that the rams are now up for sale and alot of rumors are already starting about them moving back to L.A.

But from a player's perspective, their contracts aren't guaranteed. The team can dump them at any time. Many veterans get signed to contracts that the team knows they will never fulfill. The player will get cut to free up cap room, or because of age/declining performance, and the team doesn't have to pay up the remainder of their contract.

As for rookie pay, I totally agree. Look how many first round busts my Lions have had over the last decade.

I don't understand the point of an NFL contract. The team can release a player at any time, for any reason. To me thats like having no contract.

On a side note, I'm up here in BC country and I hate Matt Ryan.

I hope he chokes on his signing bonus.

He now makes more then Tom Brady, day one not a single down yet in the NFL.

This is the main reason why they have opted out, they need a payscale because that is freaking crazy!

These rookies are getting ridiculous contracts, and then underperforming bigtime. The transition from college to the NFL is pretty big, and a lot of them don't adapt well, so this is a good thing.
