Default 300, that bad?

I've read a few fairly negative reviews for the 300 Blu-Ray Disc. I had always thought the 300 was supposed to be one of the ultimate BDs. But the reviews I've read almost make me wonder if the DVD is better.

Is the 300 BD really that bad?

nevermind the grain, I didn't think the movie was any good at all. But that's just my opinion...

Great movie, great picture. People see noise and they lose their minds.

What does DVD vs Blu-ray have to do with NOISE? That is the biggest misconception in all of this. Blu-ray provides more RESOLUTION than DVD, as well as better audio capabilities. It is not a noise reduction technology, and never was intended as such.

The heavy grain was intentional by the director to convey the graphic book feel to the screen, so you'll see lots of grain and if that's the 1st movie you watch on Hi-Def than you might think the upgrade from DVD is by not that much. but it's not Blu-ray's fault but the actual movie's style.

I have 300 on dvd and blu ray
Yes there is grain....But it was meant to be that way
BUT! Some spots and angles in the movie there is no grain and it looks great
One i can remember is when there walking thru that little path between the mountains the angle from the back view theres no grain...And thats just me remembering off the top of my head.

The LIKENESS between dvd and blu ray...they have grain
The DIFFERENCE....Blu ray has grain but the characters and scenery looks better just with grain on them...
I watched this movie alot...I watched it 2 times over the last week.
I like it..But i also like movies like troy...gladiator...braveheart...kingdom of heaven...

The cast they did for this movie was AMAZING...all the actors fit there parts
I love the movie...I mean you can buy the movie ultraviolet (which sucks))
And get no grain and good picture...Or buy 300...great movie...With grain but even the guy that made it said he wanted it to have that feel not all clear...
Thats just my opinion tho...I say rent it if your worried..
And i watched 300 on HD DVD and it wasnt that good
Blu ray really stepped it up on this movie and the audio is great too.
Dont let alot of people sway your judgement...Try it on for size see if you like.

Bullshit. They use the same VC-1 video encode... therefore they have the same PQ.

Well maybe it was the player...I watched 300 on a xbox 360 hd dvd player
then i watched king kong right after those was the only 2 my friend had...Maybe king kong outshined it because that was one amazing looking movie...But when i finally bought 300 on blu ray...not caring about the grain because i like the movie..I wouldnt use this movie to show off my blu ray player...but its not as bad as people say it is...I like the story and action in it.

If there was a difference were blu rays version was better or different i would believe it...If not...then i just thought so myself. Either way try it out with a rent at the least.

Your right... I forgot to mention it but the only difference you would precive would be between the players. Which could be very likely the case considering you are using the X-Box add-on. It's considered by many to be the wrost HD DVD player. and yes, King Kong kills 300 in the PQ department

Yeah kinda..

If they did a port over, it wouldn't matter to me then. (as I own it on HD DVD already)

If they re-encoded it, I would be forced into buying it 'again' for demo proposes and that's not something I like doing if I don't have to... If Blu-ray can improve on King Kong it will be a must own for every Blu-ray owner!

I hate double dipping though... but maybe that's just me
