Question Will we...

Will we eventually have to re-buy (if we choose to) blu-ray movies as they are again remastered & re-released? The reason I'm asking this is because I recently bought Rocky I on blu-ray for $34.99 and it was the worst blu-ray transfer I've seen. If they make a box set or redo it again will it get much better?? If so why didn't they do it in the first place??

PLMK

THANKS

depends. they redid fifth element blu ray because the transfer was horrible, but they had a replacement program where they replaced the disc for people who bought it. now fox is rereleases alien vs predator on blu ray with new web enabled features. so they are double dipping and adding features, the featurette and audio will be the same as the previous blu ray version. so it comes down to the studios and demand i guess

God I hope not...

Special Editions, and Remasters, and Superbits, and Directors Cuts, and Extended Editions, etc. etc. kill me! lol.

Don't get me wrong, that's the version I WANT. I want the most hopped up, jam packed, extra filled version of my favorite movies... I just want them on release day. Cripes. I think I have 3 Versions of the Professional (LEON) on DVD. In a perfect world, they'd release the Ultimate editions from day one

im very cynical about this issue and i believe many of our current blu ray releases will at some point encounter a "remaster" and if not a remaster then definitely a re-release (possibly with extras in 1080p seeing as some releases only have the extras in SD)

come on, do you really think that once every movie is released once that it will be the end of it?

as for how long it will take to have re-releases, i think we're safe for now...they still have to get MANY titles on blu first before we worry about rereleases/remasters

Doing special, director's cut, and anniversary editions has always been and will continue to be part of the game. It is up to you to decide whether to play or to sit it out.

Absolutely. My wallet has thanked me for becoming a regular member of the "one and done" club.

I'd only consider rebuying if the PQ is greatly improved, as was the case with Troy Director's Cut. Otherwise, there's no way I'd ever spend money on a movie because of the quality of the extras. I know some do, but I'd never fall prey to that.

I think Rocky will definitely get double dipped. Look at all the extras on the standard DVD version compared to the bare bones Blu ray version!

So at the very least it will come out with a ton of extra features included. I haven't seen it on Blu so I can't comment on the PQ, but I thought the PQ on the standard DVD was great, so they should be able to make an excellent Blu ray transfer out of it

Look at the DVD era. Rinse and repeat.

Thankfully, I'm also a member of that one and done club. There's maybe 5-10 movies that I'd consider re-buying if the new stuff was out of this world amazing.

If they can re-sell the same title a couple of times, they'll do it.

The 5fth Element was an exception as it received poor reviews and since it was demo material for DVD, I guess Sony wanted it to be demo material for Blu-ray also. It was nice of them to have the exchange program but I doubt it will happen again (I mean for free).
