All Blu-ray discs are 1080p. The player will output your display's res.

A Blu-ray disc may contain any format you mentioned and more. Most hollywood movies are released in 1080p/24, however it is up to the studio/distributor what they resolution they release it on. I'm not sure of all the standrds regarding upscaling, but they will downscale and I think all Blu-ray players on the market can upscale. If the disc is protected (most commercial disc's will be in the future) if not outputed over HDCP (Both DVI and HDMI can support - but not all HDMI or DVI have HDCP) it will be downscaled to approx 480p. The player / display do up/down scaling, there are not a number of different copies in different resolutions on the disc.

To help you understand why im asking and for u to help me out further, I have a PS3, and theres an issue in displaying BR movies in 720p witht he PS3 which will hopefully be fixed via firmware update.
The problem is, my TV supports 720p and 1080i and i wanted to test to see which one i think looks nicer, and as soon as its fixed, are my movies going to be able to be displayed in EITHER 720p or 1080i? Im curious if it matters ont he movie, or any movie will do either format. Thanks for all the help so far, this is my last question. |
