Default Tower speaker height?

Does it matter how tall the tower speakers are?

When you ask if the height of tower speakers matter. What do you mean? Towers can be very tall or small it just depends on what you can fit in your setup room. The height doesnt matter in any sense of sound quality or reproduction. Speakers should be chosen after listening to them and buying the set that the purchaser (you) likes the best.

The only way height or size matters in what speakers can actually fit inside the speaker box. For example a speaker that is 2 feet tall might only be able to fit a couple of woofers, where a 8ft tall speaker could fit many more.

I hope this answers your question

Thanks, I have towers that are 35" tall now and need them to be shorter, so I was just wondering if the actual hight of the speakers in the speaker box mattered.

I think the best height would be the same height as your ears when you are sitting in your sweet spot...

above is perfect...ear height during viewing is the best for all speakers except the sub, of course. Center is usually pretty challenging though unless you have a front pro. Toe in everyting a tad to point in the "sweet spot" and you're good to go. Hell, with all the auto calibration nowadays, it may not matter as much as before. Have fun with your towers!

Bingo...

Tweeters should be at ear-height, as they produce the most "directional" sound. Now, also consider off-axis response. If the speakers that you are buying are of high quality, the tweeters likely have good off-axis response, meaning that they do not have to be pointing directly into your ears for good sound. In general, however, the height should be ear-level at your seating position for maximum performance.
