The Competition: Will it ever . . .

I saw The Competition starring Richard Dreyfuss, Amy Irving, Lee Remick, and others directed by Joel Oliansky back in the early 1980's when I was studying at the university and greatly enjoyed it. The music was stunning and powerful in the theater featuring some of the best piano concertos that have ever been composed. The story, acting, screenplay, and script were also very good.

This film is apparently only available on VHS! Here's the kicker that really made me cringe though. At Amazon the VHS is only available used through 3rd party sellers asking from 18.99 to 100.00 for it! Believe it or not, a VHS tape costing as much as or even many times more than a Blu-ray release.

Well, ok, it must be a collector's item and is no longer being released. My question is, why? There are other movies that could just as well be in the same boat and yet are now released on Blu-ray. The Competition isn't even available on DVD let alone Blu-ray.

n fact, I haven't even seen it on any of my Dish Network movie channels! Like it never existed.

Although this might be one for an insider discussion, does anyone know what happend to The Competition and why it was only released on VHS and never on any other format? ITIA
