This is a interesting read. Not all the SDTV 480I converter boxes work correctly. Out of 14 Digital converters tested at retail 5 failed to receive the signals of some local digital stations. I guess people get what they pay for. Some of the $40+ and under boxes or free boxes after coupons have poor quality digital tuners in them or bad firmware.
http://www.tvpredictions.com/dtvbox032708.htm It is a shame that the true 1080I ATSC HDTV boxes for $100-$160+ do not qualify for the $40 government coupons. There are several millions of people that own HDTV displays and HDTV’s without an ATSC tuner that will need to pay full price to get HD quality since they can not use the coupon for true HDTV boxes. Consumers are rewarded and encouraged to stay away from true HDTV boxes when the government gives then 2 free 480I SDTV converters per household that are tax money pays for.
