Default Electronic Gaming Monthly: "Universal will no longer be exclusive to HD DVD"

So I got my new EGM in the mail today. The PS3 is on the cover and they have a big spread about it taking over in 2008. One of the reasons is stated as "Blu-ray is winning, hope you didn't buy an HD-DVD player." It states that Warner jumped of course and that paramount has said that their current plan is that they will continue to be exclusive to HD-DVD.

Now we know all of that already. But the next sentence made my eyes bug out. It said "Universal has now stated that they will no longer be exclusively supporting HD-DVD." Either EGM got a good tip or they screwed up. Either way very interesting and I thought I would share.

It was no doubt a screw up.

If this were true, trust me it would be all over the net and news outlets.

Well see I know that too. But I'm saying, that it may be soon and they have already been told by someone important that its getting ready to be announced.

It could be a screw up in rare form. Meaning that we all know insiders can not talk about either studio right now, and EGM may have just got some info and flapped their trap.

That was stated a few weeks ago that Universal's contract with HD-DVD expired.

Of course the problem is they don't need an exclusive contract to stay exclusive. However we all know that within the year they will either be releasing on BD or praying DVD sales don't continue to decline while they loose sales and revenue out of spite

I hope it is true, but we will just have to wait and see. They will surely make an official announcement sometime this week it it has any truth to it at all.

Can't people be sued over false allegation's like that in the media.

I can see it now, Universal sues EGM for 150mil - then gives it straight to Paramount as a follow up payment, putting white out over any escape clauses in the new contract

Magazines like that are typically done a month or two in advance of their street date. So, it could be that they published the news that they had heard just after Warner going Blu-ray only.
