Default What do you not like about online forums?

I know some of you might be thinking "Pointless Threads", but that's why I posted it in "off topic discussion".

Aside from know-it-alls that don't know-it-all, really bad spelling or grammar, and the abuse of the word 'n00b', I can't stand when people don't use subjects in their sentences. It really gets to me.

I think this is by far the best forum I've ever used, so my issues are aimed at others.

Basically the anonymity that means users can post all sorts of crap, insults, flaming, etc, with no fear of reprisal. It only takes one idiot to kill off a perfectly good discussion. You get all sorts of morons who are simply looking for a means to push their views onto others regardless of whether their post has anything to do with the subject. All because no one knows who they are.

I used to use the UK AV forums for PS3, but gave up when it became clear that the mods were 360 biased. Seriously, post something positive about the PS3 and you'd get shot to pieces within minutes, general users and mods too.

It could well be very different now, I've not used it for several months.

I like it here, it's fun, relaxed, informative. I often come here for news as much as anything else.

dude, its a public forum, lighten up!!!!! There is an ignore user button. I do notice the "noob" thing thrown around as well as the "search" comment. I think its tens times easier to answer the question than say use search! I wouldnt sweat it, we are supposed to be here to help, but there are always unncecessary comments that cant be prevented.

I agree here.

There are always things to dislike about anything. With this forum, it's generally great, as I've learned alot. I will say, however, there are some people on forums (any and all) which are just too uptight. If they're this bad on forums, how bad are they personally!

But, it's a really minor thing, and for the most part, it just comes with the territory.

While I agree it gets annoying to see the same thing posted again and again, it's even more annoying to see the same members having the second and third posts in these threads berating the OP rather than taking an equal amount of time to just answer the question. There are some people here who have racked up thousands of posts in a very short amount of time, and I'd wager a good bit of them are for stupid stuff like that.

If you're going to post in a thread that has already been beaten to death, at least provide a link to a related thread, or don't comment at all.

I've always been annoyed by improper spelling, grammar, and overall lack of command of the English language. This is in my sig, but "I could care less" is making the exact opposite point of what you are trying to say. Think, people!

Or it's "I could care less" in speech, if you're being facetious, but that doesn't translate well in written forums.

I could care less, but it would be difficult!!

(so I agree with you!)

When I was in school, we called those the skaters! Except they cut themselves trying to do tricks on their deck. If I wouldn't probably get locked up for being a "pervert" I'd hit up a high school to see if I could find one, but I think I'm a decade too old for that these days... something about a 30 year old being at a high school makes people nervous.

I get tired of people who are complete fanboys (especially Sony ones) and people who have opinions on very specific technical points without any background or education in the field (ie I like this product but have no information to back up my point).

I think I'd be happy to never see HD-DUD or Micro$oft or any of the other silliness that gets over used. But it's easily ignored.

This forum is fairly decent.

= makes you look like an idiot, especially when spamming it

Oh I'm sorry, I was not able to deduct your excitement from the way you structured your sentence and your choice of words. However, when I came to the end I saw you had a smiley rocking out, so now I understand. Thank you for putting that there. Otherwise, I may have mistaken your post for anything less than I am eternally grateful.

Mostly, my problem with internet forums is that it's magnifies the gross sense of entitlement alot of people have.
