PS3 outsold 360 in February, say Microsoft

If Sony keeps this up, it should be a pretty entertaining year.

this year and going into next year lineup for sony games, will destroy the 360 lineup. They only have 2 exclusives that interest me, NinjaGaiden2 and Gears of War2, so maybe 2-4 months out of this year can microsoft outsell the ps3, but why, someone who buys an elite for 450 right now, is getting ripped, since the console trade in value and when selling it will drop bigtime on price after a year and a half, since microsoft took off running already to get a console out in 2011, since they know they are in trouble already, just like what happened when the xbox had to go up against that killer year and a half lineup of the ps2, all of a sudden, we coming out with a new console, we coming out with a new console, the 360, they doing it again, LOL

I'm still waiting for these "shortages" they claim... Everytime at a B&M store they seem to have stacks of units Core/Elite/Arcade etc...

I guess it's the same as the RROD...there's no problem, we have it under control....

I see stacks of them at BBy, but the stack seems to get smaller and smaller (slowly).
I don't know how well it is selling, but I would love to see 2 things happen this summer...
1) A new PS3 with all the 60GB/80GB model capabilities (SACD, PS2, etc.) but with more capacity (larger hard drive)
2) A new price on all PS3s. If they can get the 40GB model down to $250 and the new model less than $400 I think they will sell very very well.

I would love to see a PS3/40gb for $250 but I think it will be more like $299 and probably 4th quarter for the holiday season. Then some time next year it will go down to $250.

M$ is just denying the fact that their system is becoming less popular! Every time I visit Best-Buy or any other store I see tons of 360's. Honestly I have seen maybe 4 to 6 PS3's in stock ready for purchase. From the looks of my Local BB in store displays! People are purchasing the PS3 over the 360.

Expect the "supply problems" argument through March and April as well. What they are hoping is the GTA4 released at the end of April will help them in May.

I'm predicting that MS is going to drop the price of the X360 in April right before the GTA4 release to generate the sales they need to win the month in April and May. Sony should really consider a price drop of $50 right around the launch of GTA4. Then at E3 drop it another $50.....that way you go into the 4th qtr at $300 price point.

Over the last few months, whenever I see someone buying a console, its usually a PS3. Its been probably 5-1 whenever I go to a BBy or something.

Those stacks of 360s are dwindling because MS had to massively cut back shipments last year right after they hit their "targets" because so many stores were overloaded. So they're finally selling all those consoles they bragged about shipping last summer. But its likely a lot of stores still have huge inventories, they just dont bother replenishing the floor stock as fast.

Unfortuantely Ninja Gaiden 2 is released right before MGS4 in June.

I can assure you PS3 will out sell X360 that month so that game isn't even a factor.

In nov.....Gears Of War 2 won't sell the console as much as the big hits PS3 is going to release.

The only way X360 is going to outsell the PS3 for any month is with a price cut. March will be intresting just because of the recent price cut in Europe.

Everyone dislikes vgchartz but even on there PS3 has led 360 on the worldwide charts for months. What site releases the actual data and does it have historical data as well?

I'm so glad HD DVD is dead, but I love my 360 AND my PS3. Both are incredible systems. Only system I own that I don't have a lot of love for is the wii.

I saw a damage control comment by Aaron Greeneberg saying they expected PS3 to wallop them in both February and March. However, they think by April when their ......"supply issue"...... is back under control, 360 will take over again.

If you ask me, it sounds like the M$ gaming division is having a major reality check now that they realize the magic is potentially over. I'd expect them to say just about anything as PS3's slice of the market pie slowly but surely chips away at their market share. I also expect a US price cut to try to thwart Sony's momenteum. Perhaps that will happen in........April? They'll do anything to keep the PS3from winning sales with GTAIV.

VGChartz has good historical data, and as long as your current numbers are near some numbers that are legitimately released, the results should be accurate. Just well realize how it works.

They 'fit' their formula to what's been released.

MGS has been backing off a bit lately. Could be good if they're actually trying to fill the channel with working units though. But they also backed off on Marvel Online. I guess they didn't want to compete with NCSoft and Sony in the superhero MMO market.

good points you bring up, one thing is for sure, microsoft better drop the price of the elite, the sooner the better, im sure in january 09 or sooner, a good price cut is coming, otherwise, things are going to get real ugly for them. I don't see any games besides Gears 2, that are exclusives to this console that compare with Halo, Bioshock, Forza 2, or Mass Effect, that are exclusives to this console for someone to want it. Too Human I guess may be big to some, other then that Im glad I got rid of the 360 when I did, if they would have had a lineup like Sony this year, I would have held on to it, and next year Sony has God Of War 3, The Getaway 3, Infamous, Eight Days, Eyedentify, and Team Ico's secrets games, so they losing in 09 already so far also, very sad for them, wow!
