Default Something I realized about The Dark Knight...

I was thinking that some of the scenes are in fact shot specifically for IMAX so I checked out IMDB. They have the aspect ratio for the IMAX scenes at a 1.44:1 while they have the non-IMAX scenes aspect ratio as 2.35:1. How is this going to translate to Blu-ray???

But that is what I am saying. 2.35:1 means black bars while 1.44:1 means none right?

I'm pretty sure 1.44 would actually need pillarboxes on a 1.78 TV.

Yes. Only 6 scenes were shot IMAX, They were undoubtedly protected for scope for the regular theaters.

Blu-ray will be 2:35:1

I think IMAX is shot as portrait (layout). The film is run sideways through the camera. Hence the weird aspect ratio. It will be projected at 2.35:1 or ~2.40:1 in ordinary theaters, I assure you.

With the increased resolution of IMAX film, the Blu-ray should look incredible.
