Default 2D movies and lack of special features

When there is a 3D movie it is usually loaded with extras where as Conan the Barbarian 2D and Revenge of the Fallen 2D have no special features at all. Why is this the case is it just as simple as being able to charge more for 3D films?

Pretty much; its a despicable business tactic used by studios to force 3D purchases, so they can then use those numbers to justify production of more 3D films. That's why I haven't bought "Cars 2" yet, even though I loved it in theaters.

Generally I view it as one entirely special edition- including a bonus 3D version of the film, plus other diverse features.
The practice may be on the outs though as with the Smurfs movie you have to choose between having the 3D version and the Smurfs Christmas Carol short film.
But we'll see.

I prefer to get the discs without special features if possible as I never watch them anyway. Now if I could just buy the blu without the dvd and digital copy that would be perfect.
