Default How should I set this up for sound?

hello there! I am just starting to get my new home theatre. My 46XBR5 is being delivered Wednesday and I'm hoping the PS3 will arrive the same day. I already have the HDMI cable to connect the PS3 to the TV. My problem is that I have a really old Pro Logic receiver. (I plan on updating in the future when I can afford it) The only inputs it has are the standard, well old standard, RCA jacks. What would be the best way to connect the new to the old?

Thanks.

I know that you said you have an old reciever, but does it have an optical input? If so you can run the HDMI cable from your PS3 to your tv and run an Optical cable to the reciever for the audio. If not then I can't tell you how to do this, sorry.

He is correct on the optical input. If your receiver has one, use it! Get an optical cable if your receiver accept an optical input. Otherwise, here's what you'll have to do.

HDMI from PS3 to TV -> Under "Settings", "Display Settings", "Video Output Settings", set your VIDEO settings on PS3 to HDMI.

RCA Jacks from PS3 to Receiver -> the standard cable that comes with the PS3 has the RCA connections. Under "Settings", "Sound Settings", "Audio Output Settings", select "Audio Input Connector/SCART/AV MULTI" and follow the steps.

That should theoretically give you Hi-Def video and the best crappy audio that is available to you IF YOU CAN'T USE OPTICAL AUDIO!!!

Nope, no optical. it is way too old for that. As I said, I am planning an update in the future (hopefully the near future) as funds become available. Maybe when the government sends me my "refund." One piece at a time.

Thanks for the advice!

Well then, here are the steps to get you started. I can't say that I'm happy with having to be the one to give you advice on how to get shitty sound. I'm almost tempted to say, "Just stick with HDMI audio through the TV speakers." If your sound equipment is really THAT old, the speakers are probably worse than the NEW TV speakers anyways!!!

LOL With my crappy hearing, it doesn't really matter much. All sound has to fight through my tinnitus and very crappy hearing anyway.
