Default sony vs samsung compatibility?

I have burned a bluray video made by a hdr-hc3 camcorder onto a single layer sony bluray disc using a vgc-rc320p desktop. The video plays back fine on the computer, however I tried to play the disk on a samsung bdp1000 and it would not load. Does anybody know what might be the problem?

Did you use Blu Ray authoring software to burn the Disk, or just the burning software that came with the computer to burn data onto the disk?

I used the ULead BD Disc Recorder, which creates BDAV dics.

The problem is that you burned to a BD-R disc which is left "open" by the crap Cyberlink software and the Samsung player will not recognize it. Burn to a BD-RE and all is well. Also, you will NEVER be able to view a blu-ray disc created with the new DVDit Pro HD, because it creates a BDMV disc instead of BDAV.
Samsung removed that feature with the new Firmware update.

In short, if you use the Samsung player you won't be able to create discs with a menu that the player will play. See BDAV and BDMV.

Yes even more standards and video types to monkey around with.

I have had similar problems with creating VCDs and SVCDs, those drag n drop programs are very finicky, It rare that you will come across one that just works perfectly every time. It's far more relyable to find an encoding tool and encode the movies then create a menu, and finally burning it on a disk using reliable burning rom software.

Nero burning rom and Tmpencode were in dispensible tools Back in my Svcd days. There i learned the principles of encoding video.

It just a matter of searching the web and prowling blu-ray authoring sites for the right software and the most compatible method to encode movies. As time progresses, el-cheapo Blu-ray players will have more relaxed specifications, alowing a wider array of encoded video to be played back with no hitches. Then drag n drop programs will be more reliable yet quick and dirty way to produce home movies.
